Job Summary The Software Engineer II is an intermediate individual‑contributor role responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software components and features with minimal supervision. This role applies established engineering practices independently, contributes to reliable delivery, and collaborates effectively within cross‑functional teams. Job Description Role Overview The Software Engineer II owns implementation of features, services, or components within a defined scope. The role focuses on independent development, solid technical judgment, and contribution to design decisions, while continuing to grow depth in the organization’s technology stack, tools, and practices. This role does not include people‑management responsibility, but may provide informal guidance to Software Engineer I roles and contribute to team technical discussions. This position typically reports to a Software Engineering Manager, Technical Lead, or Senior Software Engineer (M2–M3 or T3 equivalent).

Key Responsibilities Software Development & Feature Delivery

Independently design, implement, and maintain software features and components Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code following standards and best practices Estimate effort and deliver assigned work within agreed timelines

Design & Technical Contribution

Contribute to low‑ to mid‑complexity design decisions Apply established architectural patterns and engineering principles Review designs and identify potential risks or improvements

Testing, Quality & Reliability

Develop and maintain unit, integration, and component tests Troubleshoot and resolve defects across development and test environments Ensure solutions meet quality, performance, and reliability expectations

Collaboration & Agile Delivery

Work closely with product, QA, DevOps, and other engineers Participate actively in sprint planning, stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives Communicate status, risks, and dependencies clearly

Code Review & Standards Adherence

Participate in peer code reviews and incorporate feedback constructively Ensure compliance with coding, security, and documentation standards Identify opportunities to improve code quality and team practices

DevOps, Tools & Platform Usage

Use CI/CD pipelines, version control, and deployment tools effectively Support stable releases and contribute to operational readiness Assist with diagnosing production or pre‑production issues as needed

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

Independently resolve routine technical issues and defects Apply structured debugging and root‑cause analysis techniques Escalate complex or systemic issues appropriately

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

Create and maintain technical documentation for implemented solutions Document design decisions and implementation details Share knowledge and best practices with team members

Security, Compliance & Best Practices

Apply secure coding practices and data‑handling standards Follow organizational policies related to privacy, risk, and compliance Consider non‑functional requirements (security, performance, scalability) in designs

Continuous Improvement & Professional Growth

Seek feedback and continuously improve technical and professional skills Stay current with relevant technologies, frameworks, and tools Contribute ideas for improving development processes or system quality

Qualifications Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field required Typically 2–5 years of professional software development experience Demonstrated experience delivering production‑ready software features or services

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in one or more programming languages and related frameworks Understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms Experience with APIs, databases, and version control systems Familiarity with Agile development and CI/CD practices Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills Ability to work independently within defined scope Clear written and verbal communication Collaborative, accountable, and quality‑focused mindset
