Software Developer and Help Desk Specialist The Opportunity: As a Sof tware Developer and Help Desk Spe cia list supporting defense missions, you know that effective systems require secure engineering, disciplined development practices, and clear understanding of how technology enables enterprise-level operations. You think beyond individual tasks, anticipating how your work strengthens applications relied on across the Department of Defense (DoD). In this role, you’ll help modernize, sustain, and enhance sof tware tools used for education, training, doctrine support, and readiness- related workflows.

Supporting the Joint Staff, you will help modernize, maintain, and improve critical applications that adhere to the Joint Doctrine, Education, and Training Electronic Information System ( J DEI S ) , including the Joint Electronic Library ( JEL ) , Joint Doctrine Development Tool ( JDDT ) and related interfaces. You’ll help ensure these applications perform securely and reliably across NIPRNet, SIPRNet, and other approved DoD environments while aligning development practices with Zero T rus t Architecture ( ZTA ) , Risk Management Framework ( RMF ) requirements, and modern DoD sof tware standards.

In this role, you will translate requirements into functional sof tware, design and refine codebases, execute validation testing, and support updates that ensure mission tools remain secure, responsive, and aligned with evolving Joint Staff needs. Your work will help advance joint doctrine development, professional military education, and readiness reporting solutions that directly support the warfighter.

You Have: • Experience turning functional requirements into sof tware designs, prototypes, code, unit tests, documentation, and user guides  • Experience translating client requirements into application features, preparing or developing specifications for new applications • Experience performing validation testing, user acceptance activities, and installation of patches, sof tware updates, or interim releases  • Knowledge of secure development practices, sof tware documentation standards, and modern DoD-aligned engineering approaches  • Ability to evaluate application sof tware packages, application integration, and testing tools  • Ability to provide Help Desk support to users for information systems or enterprise applications • Secret clearance • Associate’s degree and 3+ years of experience in sof tware development and Help Desk support, or Bachelor’s degree in CS, Sof tware Engineering, Information Systems Management, or IT and 1+ years of experience in sof tware development and Help Desk support

Nice If You Have: • Experience developing or maintaining sof tware hosted in DoD managed or federally managed environments  • Experience implementing or supporting elements of ZTA • Experience using Help Desk applications or ticketing systems, and sustaining update cycles, patch processes, and validation testing • Experience designing creative prototypes according to specifications, and writing source code  • Knowledge of PC operating systems • Ability to provide operations and maintenance support, including issue tracking, status updates, and escalation procedures, when required • Ability to document requests, defects, and enhancements in Help Desk systems in alignment with support workflow practices  • Ability to troubleshoot across multiple applications within an enterprise environment

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $61,900.00 to $141,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
