The CUNY Mexican Studies Institute (MSI) seeks a creative, bilingual, and highly organized individual to serve as Social Media Coordinator. This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing digital communication strategies that enhance the visibility, reach, and impact of the Institute’s academic programs, cultural initiatives, research projects, public events, and community partnerships. The selected candidate will develop innovative and engaging bilingual content for the Institute’s digital platforms; foster engagement with diverse audiences; monitor trends across social media and digital communications; and contribute to strengthening the Institute’s connections with the CUNY community, with particular attention to Mexican, Mexican American, Latino, and immigrant communities throughout New York City. Working closely with the Institute’s staff, faculty, students, artists, researchers, and community organizations, the Social Media Coordinator will play a key role in expanding the Institute’s digital presence, strengthening its public identity, and increasing its reach and impact both within the CUNY system and beyond.
POSITION DETAILS
• Develop and implement digital communications and social media strategies that advance the mission, academic programs, cultural initiatives, and public engagement efforts of the Mexican Studies Institute. • Produce, direct, and edit high-quality audiovisual content for the Institute’s website, digital platforms, exhibitions, academic programs, public events, and outreach campaigns. • Design and develop multimedia storytelling projects that document and promote the Institute’s research, publications, cultural initiatives, educational programs, and community-based projects. • Create, schedule, and publish engaging and strategic content for Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and other digital platforms. • Develop bilingual (Spanish and English) content, including written copy, graphics, photographs, videos, stories, reels, and promotional campaigns for the Institute’s various initiatives. • Manage the social media editorial calendar and coordinate digital communications across multiple platforms and channels. • Promote academic programs, lectures, exhibitions, workshops, cultural festivals, FILNYC, and other special events organized or sponsored by the Institute. • Monitor audience engagement, respond to inquiries, and foster meaningful participation across the Institute’s digital platforms and online communities. • Analyze social media performance metrics and audience trends, and prepare regular reports to inform decision-making and guide future communication strategies. • Collaborate with faculty, students, artists, researchers, institutions, and community organizations to create and disseminate digital content. • Coordinate digital and social media coverage of institutional events, academic programs, exhibitions, conferences, and special projects. • Stay current with emerging trends, digital tools, and best practices in social media and communications to expand audience reach and engagement. • Ensure consistency in the Institute’s visual identity, institutional messaging, and branding strategy across all digital platforms. • Support the development and implementation of communications and outreach campaigns related to institutional initiatives, special projects, and strategic partnerships. • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the mission, programs, and initiatives of the Mexican Studies Institute. • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required by academic programs, special events, and institutional activities. • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Audiovisual Production, Journalism, Film, Digital Media, or a related field. Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in multimedia production, audiovisual production, video, photography, digital communications, or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, and management of digital communications strategies and successful social media campaigns to drive audience growth, foster community engagement, and promote institutional programs and initiatives. • Proficiency in graphic design, photography, video editing, and digital content production tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Acrobat, etc.), Canva, WordPress, email marketing platforms, and other applications related to the creation, publication, and distribution of digital content. • Experience producing, editing, and publishing multimedia content for a variety of digital platforms, including photography, video, interviews, stories, reels, promotional campaigns, and digital storytelling projects. • Ability to conceptualize, develop, and adapt visual, audiovisual, and written content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, X, institutional websites, and other emerging platforms. • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills in both Spanish and English, with the ability to create high-quality bilingual content and tailor messaging to diverse audiences, formats, and communication channels. • A professional portfolio demonstrating experience in social media management, multimedia content production, communications campaigns, digital storytelling projects, and audience engagement and growth strategies. • Experience using social media management and scheduling platforms, as w
