Job Description
As a valued colleague on our team, you will contribute to assessing and identifying potential risks that may threaten our reputation, safety, security, and/or financial success. In this role, you will support risk management activities across the Single-Family business, help evaluate emerging and existing risks, and collaborate with teams across the organization to strengthen risk awareness, controls, and decision-making. You will bring thoughtful analysis, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to help the organization proactively identify issues and manage risk within a highly regulated environment.
What You Will Do
• Assess, analyze, and communicate business and operational risks that could affect the organization's reputation, safety, security, financial performance, or ability to meet business objectives. • Support risk identification and evaluation activities within Single-Family Risk, including reviewing trends, issues, processes, and other information to identify potential areas of concern. • Collaborate with business partners, risk professionals, and other stakeholders to understand risk drivers, evaluate potential impacts, and support appropriate risk responses. • Contribute to risk monitoring, reporting, and escalation activities by developing clear, concise, and well-supported analyses and recommendations. • Help identify opportunities to strengthen controls, processes, governance, and risk management practices; support implementation and follow-through on agreed actions. • Review and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information from multiple sources to support informed risk decisions and management discussions. • Track emerging risks and changes in the business or external environment and communicate relevant developments to stakeholders. • Prepare materials, summaries, and presentations for risk leadership and stakeholder discussions, ensuring information is accurate, consistent, and easy to understand. • Promote a strong risk culture by demonstrating sound judgment, constructive challenge, accountability, and effective partnership across teams.
Position can be based out of one of our 3 offices in Washington, DC, Reston, VA or Plano, TX. Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, finance, economics, risk management, accounting, information systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. • Relevant experience in risk management, business operations, financial services, governance, controls, audit, compliance, or a closely related area. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate information, identify key risks, and translate findings into practical recommendations. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to audiences with varying levels of risk expertise. • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships, collaborate across functions, and influence outcomes without relying solely on formal authority. • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and highly regulated environment. • Comfort working with data, business documentation, and risk-related reporting to identify patterns, trends, and potential areas requiring additional attention. • Shows curiosity and adaptability in learning and responsibility applying new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to reimagine how we work.
Desired Qualifications
• Experience supporting risk management within mortgage, housing finance, banking, capital markets, or another regulated financial services environment. Experience working with enterprise or business-level risk frameworks, risk and control assessments, issue management, or risk reporting. • Familiarity with the Single-Family mortgage lifecycle and the risk considerations that may arise across origination, servicing, credit, operations, counterparties, or related business processes. • Experience using data and reporting tools to support risk analysis, monitoring, or management reporting.
Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate is curious, pragmatic, and comfortable asking thoughtful questions. You can connect individual issues to broader business and risk implications, distinguish meaningful signals from noise, and communicate your perspective with clarity and professionalism. You are a dependable partner who can balance independent analysis with collaboration and who values integrity, accountability, and sound risk management.
