Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff (level 6) Systems En gineer to join the Sentinel Systems Engineering team located in Roy, UT.   Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure. 

As a Level 6 Systems Engineer , you will provide leadership and technical oversight to a team of SMT Tech Leads, each supporting a Tier I or Tier II supplier. Additionally, you will act as the primary focal point for program design changes, processes, and templates impacting suppliers – providing coordination, technical guidance, and high-level impact assessments, and collaborating across Program Operating Units / IPTs, Office of the Chief Engineer, Engineering, Mission Assurance, Global Supply Chain, and other functional organizations.

What you'll get to do: • Driving collaboration and communication across all Tier I & Tier II SMT Tech Leads. • Identifying technical best practices across the SMTs and establishing CONOPS and templates for implementation across the greater SMT. • Partnering with program and technical leadership to align supplier technical objectives within program cost and schedule constraints. • Acting as SMT focal point for early-phase development of changes, ensuring design solutions account for potential supplier impacts early, in order to minimize avoidable supplier cost & schedule impacts. Bringing in SMT Tech Leads as needed to address potential supplier-specific impacts. • Acting as SMT primary technical focal point for managing change and change board activities. SMT Technical Review Board (TRB) delegate. • Acting as technical focal point for reviewing proposed design changes, to determine potential for supplier impact. (Individual supplier impacts will be determined by SMTLs and SMT Tech Leads.) • Analyzing proposed changes, to balance technical needs with supplier cost and schedule, and recommending alternatives that address program needs and expectations. • Cross-functional collaboration with owners and key technical and programmatic stakeholders on Supplier Statements of Work (SSOW) templates. • Providing technical guidance, oversight, and interpretation to assist SMT Tech Leads with tailoring SSOWs to align with templates and specific supplier deliverables. • Providing SMT experienced Tech Lead surge support. • Providing SMT technical support for major program requirements changes and proposals. • Providing overarching SMT process guidance on supplier Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Variance (RFVs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), supplier Basis of Estimates (BOEs), etc. • Providing independent assessments to support Supplier proposal technical evaluations, on as-needed basis. • Providing SMT technical support for PDP ingestion activities, including estimating and integration. • Identifying technical risks and opportunities impacting the greater SMT; providing risk mitigation and capture plans as appropriate. • Identifying bottlenecks and process improvement opportunities within the SMT portion of the subcontractor deliverables (SDRL) approval process. • Providing independent guidance on approval criteria for SMT-owned technical SDRLs. • Driving commonality across the greater SMT in methodology and metrics used to track technical goals and commitments for suppliers. • Identifying SMT Tech Lead training and knowledge gaps, and partnering with the SMT & Tech Lead functional homerooms to define curriculum to bridge gaps. • Mentoring junior SMT Tech Leads.

Basic Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 14 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 10 years of related engineering experience.

• 5 years of experience leading technical teams/and or organizations to achieve a common goal as a results driven leader who views mentorship as a priority.

• Experience with the systems engineering “V” and different phases of the acquisition lifecycle including requirements development to acceptance testing.

• Experience in managing a technical baseline.

• Experience with systems engineering milestones.
