Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a Staff Human Factors Engineer to lead Human Factors and User Experience (UX) efforts for development of GBSD SW User Interfaces as part of the Specialty Engineering Human Systems Integration (HSI) team. This position will be located in Roy, Utah and supports the Sentinel Program.

This role may offer a competitive relocation package.

What you’ll get to do:

• The selected candidate will lead aspects of the Human Factors (HF) specialization for software user interfaces (UI) efforts for the HSI team

• They will interact/communicate with the element and product level teams in the technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and supportability / effectiveness analyses for total systems

• Human Factors analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, and test

• The HFE ensures requirements allocation and interface definition studies translate to customer requirements for hardware and software HSI specification and could require functional analysis, timeline analysis, and detail trade studies

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Human Factors engineering for UX and human computer interaction for software UIs

• Collaboratively develop a design Style Guide for UI common look and feel with SW teams

• Ensure compliance with specified sections of MIL-STD-1472G

• Prepare, coordinate and conduct both predictive and empirical workload analyses as well as usability assessments

• Translate user research data into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences for system operators. Be flexible and iterate designs in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous, environment

• Use one or more industry standard design and prototyping tools to create wireframes, visual designs, and interactive prototypes

• Author/support the program documentation of the HFE products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions (e.g. Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Operator, Human Engineering Test Plan, Human Engineering Test Report, etc.)

• Prepare Human Factors Analyses (task analyses, predictive workload analyses, interface prototyping and analysis)

• Review UI design decision and documentation and provide HF support to software interface design and development

• Integrate operator attributes to the system architecture, CONOPS, and use-case development using model-based systems engineering methodologies

• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders across IPTs and with the user community

Basic Qualifications:

• Educational background in Psychology, Human Factors, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, HCI-related field, or Engineering from an accredited university, and at least 12 years of related experience, with a Bachelors; OR at least 10 Years of relevant experience with a master’s degree; OR 8 year of relevant experience with a PhD degree

• Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years

• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

• Experience in Human Factors Engineering/Human Systems Integration utilizing UI/UX design principles

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to program and customer teams and leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Human Factors in a defense contracting environment (familiarity with Mil-Std-1472G and ANSI/HFES 100-2007), DoD UI/UX Design Experience

• Familiarity with Human Factors modeling in NX/Jack, IMPRINT

• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

• Experience on an Agile Software Development Team

• Past/Active employment with MMIII or Sentinel Weapon Systems

• 4+ years of Systems engineering experience

• Experience with any of the following tools and languages: DOORS, Cameo, Teamcenter, CPLM, Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.)

• Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) for the development of complex systems of systems

• Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience
