What You Will Do:
We are looking for a Senior Scientist to support the operational and research objectives of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) Intramural Research Program by supporting genomic, genetics, single-cell sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics research activities. This is a full-time position located in Baltimore, MD. • Provide on-site scientific expertise, laboratory support, and data analysis support for genomic and genetics experiments conducted by NIA research staff.
• Organize, validate, and process samples for microarray, next-generation sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and single-cell sequencing experiments.
• Use advanced scientific knowledge and laboratory skills to resolve complex genetics and genomics issues, provide experimental guidance, and conduct pilot studies to develop and improve laboratory techniques.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of samples, reagents, and consumables through tracking systems and databases; obtain vendor quotes and assist with purchasing requests for laboratory supplies, services, and equipment.
• Perform operational troubleshooting, calibration, software updates, and maintenance of specialized laboratory instruments while ensuring compliance with laboratory safety procedures.
• Support the planning, execution, troubleshooting, and analysis of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics experiments utilizing platforms such as Chromium X and CytAssist.
• Acquire, maintain, and support specialized laboratory instrumentation and evaluate emerging technologies, software, and methodologies for potential implementation.
• Design and conduct complex scientific experiments requiring broad knowledge of molecular biology, genomics, transcriptomics, and related scientific principles.
• Provide technical support and scientific guidance to laboratory staff on research projects, experimental design, assay development, and data interpretation.
• Establish, train users on, and help manage Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN).
• Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and train staff on laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and associated software applications.
• Manage scientific resources, including reagents, frozen cell stocks, biological samples, and research inventories.
• Conduct bioinformatics and statistical analyses and prepare data for abstracts, scientific reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
• Maintain accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebooks and research documentation.
• Collaborate with Principal Investigators and research staff to prioritize instrument usage and optimize laboratory operations.
• Coordinate with IT personnel regarding software, data management, instrument connectivity, and technology-related issues.
• Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and other scientific communications.
• Present research findings at laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, symposia, and national scientific meetings.
• Support data management and sharing initiatives, including organizing and uploading datasets to repositories such as GEO, SRA, and MassIVE.
• Provide mentoring, training, and technical guidance to fellows, postdoctoral researchers, students, biologists, and junior scientists.
• Support scientific collaborations, grant-related activities, laboratory organization initiatives, and research program development.
• Provide scientific guidance to management and laboratory leadership through literature reviews, technical evaluations, and recommendations for research activities and equipment purchases.

What You Will Need:
• Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum of EIGHT (8) years of experience in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, and transcriptomics research.
• Hands-on background supporting single-cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics workflows.
• Skilled in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting specialized scientific instrumentation.
• Background conducting bioinformatics and statistical analyses of genomic and transcriptomic datasets.
• Proven ability to prepare scientific manuscripts, technical reports, presentations, and publication-quality figures.
• Knowledge of laboratory inventory management, research documentation, and electronic records.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to train, mentor, and support researchers and laboratory personnel.
• Ability to maintain detailed electronic laboratory notebooks and research records.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.

• Familiarity with OLINK Explore Protein Biomarker Discovery platforms.
• Knowledge of 10X Genomics single-cell sequencing technologies.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary research teams.
• Background supporting shared scientific core facilities or advanced research laboratories.
• Ability to implement or administer Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Skilled in managing scientific datasets and submissions to public repositories such as GEO, SRA, and MassIVE.
• Exposure to Data Management and Sharing (DMS) initiatives.
• Record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations.
• Mentoring background with fellows, postdoctoral researchers, students, or junior scientists.
• Ability to evaluate and implement emerging laboratory technologies and research methodologies.
