About this role

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

Wirecutter, the product review and shopping guide arm of The New York Times Company, is looking for an experienced and driven Product Manager. Reporting to the Product Director of Platforms, you will help lead two independent engineering teams focused on building the next generation of our commerce platform. Specifically, you will shape how our Data & Monetization platform dramatically improves reader experience and business outcomes.

Every year, Wirecutter reaches millions of users and drives billions of dollars in sales for our merchant partners. Through rigorous testing, research, and reporting across hundreds of merchants, our dedication to helping people find the best products remains as relevant today as it did over ten years ago. We deliver human-generated, straightforward recommendations that inspire readers while saving them time, effort, and money.

This is a hybrid role based in our New York City headquarters. You can typically expect to come into the office 2 days/week.

Responsibilities:

• Strategic Planning: Articulate a clear vision and roadmap for how our monetization and data platforms can drive strategic goals for Wirecutter as a whole.

• Data Strategy: Identify, advocate for, and execute a vision for a unified data platform spanning our product catalog, user engagement, and monetization data.

• Monetization Strategy: Drive the roadmap for affiliate revenue systems, including third-party integrations, data accuracy and freshness, and revenue attribution.

• Daily Execution: Lead teams in their daily operations, ensuring clear priorities and an effective operating model to move fast toward realizing the product vision.

• Portfolio Management: Thoughtfully balance investments across varying time horizons, degrees of risk/impact, and platform needs.

• Stakeholder Engagement: Integrate perspectives and needs from key stakeholders (such as Revenue and Editorial) and partner Product teams into strategic and tactical planning.

• Communications: Maintain broad awareness and understanding—especially among non-technical stakeholders—regarding team focus areas and execution against priorities.

• Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate workflows to identify opportunities for smarter execution and higher impact.

• Platform Strategy Contribution: Act as a key voice in identifying ways to refine our platforms and enhance cross-team collaboration across the company.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in product management

• 3+ years of experience in a technical or data-focused role

• Strong systems-thinking skills, with the ability to zoom in and out fluidly

• Proven track record of driving business impact

• Comfort using AI in daily product management and team workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional experience in an engineering or data-oriented role

• Experience shipping or leading the adoption of an AI-powered workflow change within a team
