Job Summary

Landrum & Brown (L&B) is seeking a Senior Managing Consultant to serve as a strategic and operational leader within our Aviation Environmental practice. This role is designed for an established environmental professional with deep, aviation-specific expertise who is ready to shape direction, influence executive decision-making, and operate as a national center of excellence for environmental due diligence across major U.S. airports.

You will function at the intersection of technical authority, operational leadership, and client advisory - guiding complex NEPA programs while mentoring teams and strengthening our aviation environmental platform.

The Opportunity

This is not a purely technical delivery role. It is a senior leadership position with dual impact:

Operational Leadership: Support practice leadership in resource planning, financial performance, quality assurance, and risk management across aviation environmental projects.

Technical Center of Excellence: Serve as a national authority for airport environmental issues, overseeing and advising on Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Categorical Exclusions (CatEx) for major airport capital programs.

You will play a visible role in shaping environmental strategy for airport sponsors, airlines, and federal stakeholders while maintaining hands-on involvement in technically complex and high-profile programs.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Your Impact :  

Strategic & Operational Leadership   • Partner with Aviation Practice leadership to drive operational excellence, including forecasting, staffing strategy, margin management, and quality control.  

• Elevate technical standards and consistency across EIS, EA, and   CatEx   documentation nationwide.  

• Lead internal technical reviews and serve as   escalation   authority for complex environmental risk issues.  

• Mentor mid-level staff, building bench strength in aviation-focused NEPA delivery.  

Technical Authority – Aviation Environmental Due Diligence   • Provide senior oversight and direction on   airport NEPA and environmental issues :  

• Environmental Impact Statements (EIS)

• Environmental Assessments (EA)  

• Categorical Exclusions ( CatEx )  

• Part 150 Noise Compatibility Programs  

• Stand alone   noise and air quality analyses specifically for aviation sources   ​

• Provide environmental support for   airfield expansion, runway extensions, terminal   redevelopment, and landside infrastructure projects.  

• Oversee technical disciplines including air quality conformity, noise analysis (Part 150 and Part 161 familiarity), wetlands, cultural resources, and cumulative impact analysis.  

• Interface with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), airport authorities, and   cooperating   agencies on complex regulatory matters.  

Client Advisory & Market Leadership   • Act as   executive -level advisor to airport sponsors and aviation clients.  

• Support business development efforts, including capture strategy, proposal leadership, and client relationship management.  

• Represent the firm in industry forums such as Airports Council International (ACI) ,   American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) , and Airport Consultants Council (ACC) .  

• Strengthen our reputation as a trusted environmental advisor across major U.S. aviation hubs.  

What   We’re   Seeking:   • 1 0 + years of progressive environmental consulting experience, with a strong concentration in   aviation infrastructure .  

• Demonstrated leadership of complex NEPA documents (EIS, EA,   CatEx ) for commercial service airports.  

• Direct experience working with FAA Airport District Offices and regional environmental staff.  

• Strong command of environmental risk mitigation strategies in large capital improvement programs.  

• Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and influence senior stakeholders.  

• Track record   of operational oversight   -   budget accountability,   utilization   management, and performance leadership.  

• Advanced degree in environmental science, planning, engineering, or related field preferred.

Landrum & Brown is committed to pay equity.   As part of that commitment, we have   provided   the base compensation range of  $160,000 - $180,000   annually for this position and local market.   We recognize that each candidate brings a unique set of skills, experience,   education   and competencies to the table that will be reflected in our offer .   Landrum & Brown is proud to offer exciting career development opportunities .
