About this role

Job Description Working under the supervision of the Schaefer School Assistant Dean of Operations and Administration, the  Senior Financial Analyst  will be responsible for collaboratively working with the faculty, staff, department chairs, and associate deans to manage the day-to-day operations in support of the various cost centers (including research) in the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science.

This is a fixed-term position , up to 35 hours per week,   with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027 .   This position will be at least three (3) days on campus.  The current on campus days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  - Oversee and manage the day-to-day financial operations of SES and the SES Office of the Dean, including, but not limited to: • Review and approval of various financial transactions in Workday • Processing budget adjustment requests • Review and approval of job requisitions in Workday • Respond to inquiries and provide information to faculty, staff and students on fiscal policies and procedures. • Train new faculty and staff members on the usage of Workday and reading of financial information. • Serve as the liaison with the Offices of Sponsored Research and Sponsored Accounting with faculty and Principal Investigators (PIs) for sponsored/grant financial matters. • Process and analyze data for various financial spreadsheets and process/oversee the processing of financial/business forms. • Gather information for reports and special projects and establish/maintain budget files and supporting schedules. • Maintain a variety of financial and other departmental records, documents and reports and regularly review for accuracy.

- Prepare and analyze monthly spending forecasts for the Schaefer School and related departments. • Data mining of financial information to create, prepare and review monthly financial reports for departmental (operating and gift) and faculty (start-up and research incentive) cost centers/funds showing budgeted vs. actuals within the fiscal year. • Review and analyze department and faculty budgets, summarize budgets and submit recommendations for the approval or disapproval of funds requests. • Analyze and report on all SES payroll research default accounts.  Coordinate with departments on the processing of salary adjustments, according to established guidelines from the Office of Research. • Analyze and report on all Research Incentive Awards (RIA) accounts and the ACE/Bridging/Sprint seed research cost centers/funds in SES.

- Assist the Assistant Dean in the preparation of annual budget, working proactively with academic departments and faculty.

- Primary user of Tableau software in the Schaefer School for use in budget, forecast, and problem-solving. 

- Work on special projects as assigned within the Office of the Dean

Qualifications • Required Education:   Bachelor’s degree in a financial-related field. • Preferred Education:  Master’s degree in a financial-related field. • Required Experience:   Minimum of 2–3 years of experience with financial systems, spreadsheets, accounting tools, and general finance administration. • Preferred Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience and  experience working in higher education

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Proven leader with impeccable organizational skills, strong analytic skills, healthy sense of urgency, and a strong track record of multitasking and timely problem-solving. • Clear verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work one-on-one with faculty and staff effectively. • Strong fiscal responsibility in managing budgets within a resource-restricted environment. • Ability to collaborate and interact with faculty, students, and staff in a collegial and professional manner. • Demonstrated proficiency with intermediate- to advanced-level Microsoft software suite.

Department School of Engineering and Science Operations

 Compensation Range In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the hourly base range for this position is $35-$43 per hour. This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
