Senior Director of Business Development – C2 Programs
Job Summary
Red 6 is hiring a Senior Director of Business Development – C2 Programs. This role will be remote. We are seeking a dynamic, mission-focused growth leader to drive customer engagement and the company’s OTTI, LBC, ISR strategy and growth across U.S. military training markets. The ideal candidate combines military or defense-industry experience with business development, pilot or operational training, modeling and simulation, and live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) training expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive C2 business development strategy aligned with corporate growth goals and priority military training markets.
- Own the C2 military training pipeline and bookings plan, including opportunity qualification, pipeline health, probability-weighted forecasting, win strategy, and achievement of annual growth targets.
- Shape and influence requirements early in the acquisition cycle to align customer training and readiness needs with Red 6 capabilities.
- Drive opportunities from customer discovery and demonstrations through validated requirements, funded programs, acquisition strategy, contract award, and transition to execution.
- Manage the full business development lifecycle: opportunity identification, qualification, capture strategy, proposal support, negotiations, award, and contract transition.
- Establish and maintain trusted relationships with senior military operational leaders, requirements organizations, acquisition offices, program offices, training commands, industry partners, primes, and integrators.
- Develop opportunities across U.S. military services, joint organizations, special operations, and allied or partner-nation training customers, as applicable to company strategy.
- Build customer maps and engagement plans covering operational, requirements, acquisition, budget, contracting, and technical stakeholders.
- Own competitive and market intelligence for C2, including customer budgets, acquisition timelines, incumbent training architectures, competitor positioning, and potential teaming partners.
- Develop partnership and ecosystem strategies, including recommendations on when to prime, subcontract, team, or integrate with larger training-system architectures and platforms.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, programs, marketing, finance, contracts, and executive leadership to ensure customer needs, capture strategies, and product roadmaps remain aligned.
- Develop compelling business cases and value propositions that connect Red 6 technology to measurable training effectiveness, readiness, cost, throughput, and operational outcomes.
- Deliver accurate weekly staff updates, pipeline forecasts, and quarterly progress reports to executive leadership.
- Contribute to the continued evolution of business development processes, including CRM discipline, opportunity qualification, formal capture, proposal workflows, and lessons learned.
Skills and Requirements
- 10+ years of progressively responsible business development, capture, military training, acquisition, or defense-industry experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility.
- Demonstrated success developing and capturing large-scale DoD training, simulation, readiness, or emerging-technology opportunities.
- Strong understanding of DoD requirements, acquisition, budgeting/POM processes, appropriations, and contracting pathways, including SBIR, OTA, IDIQ, and FAR-based acquisitions.
- Demonstrated ability to transition emerging defense technology from prototype, demonstration, experimentation, or pilot activity into funded programs, production, training deployments, or scalable contract vehicles.
- Background in modeling and simulation, flight or operational training, LVC systems, synthetic training environments, distributed mission training, or military training ranges strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of military training architectures, syllabi, readiness requirements, training systems, and methods used to measure training effectiveness and mission readiness.
- Ability to independently engage and brief senior military leaders, flag/general officers, SES leaders, PEO/PM leadership, acquisition executives, operational commanders, and senior industry executives.
- Strong customer mapping, stakeholder engagement, opportunity shaping, business case development, and capture strategy skills.
- Familiarity with Shipley or comparable formal capture methodology.
- Proposal leadership experience in both nontraditional and traditional FAR-based acquisition processes.
- Experience building relationships and teaming strategies with DoD acquisition offices, primes, integrators, and technology partners.
- General technical fluency with AR, XR, LVC, simulation, and advanced training technologies; expert-level engineering knowledge is not required, but the candidate must communicate the technology and its operational value clearly.
- Exceptional executive communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Senior military leadership, operational training, instructor, requirements, acquisition, or program-management experience.
- Established credibility and relationships within U.S. military training, readiness, simulation, and acquisition communities.
- Experience supporting joint, multi-service, or allied training programs.
- Experience taking a new or disruptive defense capability
