Location:   This is a remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the   option   of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office). All CB employees   are required to   occasionally travel to meet in person for business purposes.

About the Team    

The Editorial team is part of   College   Board’s Assessment Design and Development (AD&D) department. We are a collaborative team committed to producing SAT Suite test questions and related publications that are error-free, consistent in style, and aligned to   established   editorial standards. We also edit materials and ensure quality control for other College Board programs, such as AP and ACCUPLACER. We work closely with Math and Reading and Writing subject matter experts within AD&D and other teams across   College   Board to publish tests and related materials in a variety of formats, both digital and print. As a team, we are in a period of intentional growth and evolution. We are actively refining our processes, strengthening cross-functional partnerships, and   identifying   new ways to improve how we work. About the Opportunity     

As a Senior Director, Editorial, you will lead and manage a senior editorial team of five, made up of highly experienced Editors and Graphic/Layout staff, responsible for advancing the quality, consistency, and strategic impact of assessments and publications for the SAT Suite and other College Board programs. You will set and uphold the team’s strategic direction, priorities, standards, and   operating   procedures, ensuring editorial excellence, efficiency, and alignment to organizational goals. While you will engage in editing selectively to remain connected to the team’s core work, your primary focus will be developing talent through coaching, mentoring, and performance management; strengthening team capability; and driving long-term planning and major cross-divisional initiatives. In close partnership with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, you will champion editorial standards, coordinate strategy across teams, resolve dependencies, and ensure the team’s work delivers meaningful impact for students and other stakeholders.  

In this role, you will:    

Copyedit and proofread content for College Board programs such as the SAT Suite, ACCUPLACER, and AP [5%]    

• Copyedit, proofread, and fact check test questions, assessment support materials, and other complex, high-visibility, or high-stakes publications in various formats (digital apps, print, etc.), adjusting scope appropriately and modeling advanced editorial judgment  

• Apply and interpret College Board and other relevant style guidelines with nuance and consistency to all edited content, especially in ambiguous scenarios  

• Provide guidance on substantive editorial questions and resolve escalations requiring leadership oversight  

Lead and manage the editorial team to drive strategic direction, quality standards, and performance [55%]    

• Shape and communicate the team’s vision, priorities, quality benchmarks, and success metrics in alignment with organizational goals  

• Develop, coach, mentor, and manage a talented team of editors and graphic designers through regular feedback, performance management, goal setting, and career development planning  

• Monitor team performance using data and feedback,   identifying   opportunities to improve processes, quality control, and operational effectiveness  

• Manage the team’s workload calendar, project timelines, and inter-departmental coordination efforts, effectively managing competing priorities and ensuring high-quality,   timely   editorial results  

• Promote a collaborative, constructive, mission-focused work environment and high-performing team culture grounded in accountability, continuous improvement, and student-centered impact  

• Allocate resources effectively across programs and initiatives, balancing workload, risk, and strategic priorities  

• Establish, refine, and uphold editorial standards, SOPs, and workflow expectations to ensure team consistency, efficiency, quality, and knowledge sharing  

• Participate in professional growth opportunities and present relevant information to the editorial team and other stakeholders   

• Grow the team through ongoing development, creating stretch opportunities, and building a talent bench    

Lead long-term planning and major cross-divisional initiatives while   representing   and championing the team across the organization [40%]   

• Design and lead strategic initiatives, evidence-based experimentation, special projects, and long-term planning efforts that advance editorial quality, innovation, and operational excellence  

• Own outcomes for major team and cross-divisional projects, including scope, resourcing, timelines, and alignment to organizational goals  

• Partner with senior leaders and stakeholders to integrate editorial standards into upstream planning and development processes  

• Oversee the development and evolution of shared documentation, templates, workflow standards, and quality benchmarks  

• Identify   systemic gaps or risks and implement scalable solutions that strengthen efficiency, quality, alignment, and impact  

• Champion the adoption of new tools, technologies, and AI-enabled workflows to improve quality, risk mitigation, and team effectiveness  

• Work extensively with cross-team, cross-divisional, and cross-organizational stakeholders to coordinate strategy and resolve dependencies
