As the Senior Director of Construction at Stanford Health Care, you will provide strategic direction an operational accountable leadership for construction execution and deliverables ensuring our facilities support emerging models of care and innovation.
In this role, you will partner with Facilities Planning and Design, Real Estate, Business Operations, Site Activations, Clinical Operations, and Executive Leadership to align project execution with institutional goals. You will oversee a high-performing team, ensuring projects meet schedule, budget, scope, and quality objectives. Your expertise in healthcare construction and ability to influence at the executive level will be crucial.

Experience: • Demonstrated experience leading Facilities Construction projects for HCAI Level 1 acute care hospital facilities.

A Brief Overview The Senior Director of Construction at Stanford Health Care (SHC) leads construction management services for capital projects across SHC facilities, serving SHC on behalf of multiple Stanford Medicine entities. This role provides significant leadership to optimize staff resources and ensure consistent project delivery, reporting to and supporting the Vice President to shape the department's capital initiatives. The role is responsible for delivery of cost, schedule, and constructability input during the Programming, Schematic Design, and Design Development phases, and assumes project leadership during the Construction Documents phase. The role requires substantial direct management of staff in Director - Construction, Sr. Manager - Construction, and other Construction staff to ensure project success. The Senior Director interfaces with the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI/OSHPD) and coordinates with Facilities Planning & Design, Ambulatory Facilities & Activations, and Facilities Services Business Operations, while maintaining presence on site to oversee staff, construction, and vendors. The role requires daily on-site presence to drive best-management practices within the approved multi-year capital plan, ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies, and uphold organizational construction principles to achieve high-quality outcomes. Position may involve projects in various locations across the Stanford Health Care footprint and weekend/holiday work depending on construction schedule.

What you will do
• Define Facilities Construction strategy and policies in alignment with capital plan and SHC priorities. • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships across Stanford Medicine, Stanford University, and external agencies such as local municipalities and the Department of Health Access and Information (HCAI)/Office of Statewide Planning and Development (OSHPD). • Oversee and manage construction budgets and departmental operating costs within financial guidelines and parameters. • Actively participate in disaster preparedness (i.e. Earthquake preparedness) and recovery program as applied to construction operations and facilities coordination. • Oversee annual planning process for Facilities Construction department. • Develop, review, revise, and approve contracts and invoices for engineers, contractors, vendors for assigned capital project contracts in partnership with the Facilities Services business office. • Advise on contracts and invoices for architects for assigned capital project contracts. • Develop senior leadership bench; oversee staffing plans, performance management, and succession across multiple departments. • Lead construction portfolio executive communications and provide visibility to executive (VP/C‑suite) and medical leadership. • Sponsor construction industry innovations & technology adoption (artificial intelligence, mobile QA/QC apps, Building Information Modeling (BIM) for field use, etc) and lean improvement methods across Facilities Construction • Review and lead in execution of policies that directly relate to construction management services for SHC facilities to support the execution of capital construction projects, and coordinate with planning, operations and academic priorities. • Oversee best management practices executing construction within the approved multi-year capital plan in adherence with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. • Provide construction representation with local jurisdictions for policy implementation and jurisdictional and regulatory compliance. • Assure construction compliance with applicable laws, building codes, energ
