Job Description The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Senior Cloud Engineer, Information Technology [ R0150849].

ROLE of the POSITION • Provides full-time platform and cloud services (Public, Hosted, SaaS, PaaS), infrastructure engineering, and systems administration. 

Responsibilities: • Infrastructure, engineering, and administration tasks on supported platforms and cloud services

• Designing, deploying, and managing scalable, secure, and resilient platform and cloud services within a hybrid environment

• Automating infrastructure provisioning

• Managing Infrastructure-as-Code templates

• Optimizing resource usage

• Ensuring compliance with security and governance standards

• Performing platform and services administration

• Tenant management, Version upgrades, Patching, and Performance tuning

• System monitoring, maintenance, growth planning, problem analysis, documentation, backups, and recovery.

• Supports modernization and operational transparency initiatives, requiring effective collaboration with university faculty, business teams, and vendors.

Customer Service Expectations: This position is responsible for maintaining a customer-focused approach in all duties, ensuring professional, timely, and effective interactions with internal and external stakeholders. To provide excellent service the employee will: listen to customers and understand their needs; help customers solve problems; demonstrate an eagerness to help; exhibit a professional disposition; be approachable, respectful, and team-oriented; take ownership of inquiries and assignments; provide updates for customers; and be familiar with the basic operations of the university in order to understand customer needs better.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s Degree • Bachelor’s degree must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)

• In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, applicants may qualify with four additional years of relevant experience, or with an associate's degree plus two additional years of relevant experience.

• Seven (7) years of related professional experience in systems engineering.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience working in a higher education environment

• 10 years or more related professional experience in systems engineering

• Industry Linux Certification

• Industry Cloud Certification

• Industry Project Management Certification

• Industry Major Service Certification

Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

ACCEPTED EQUIVALENCIES FOR DEGREE REQUIREMENT UNLV may consider additional relevant experience in place of formal education requirements: In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, applicants may qualify with four additional years of relevant experience, or with an associate's degree plus two additional years of relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES The incumbent must have specific knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

KNOWLEDGE Required  • How to maintain applications and perform system version upgrades at a senior level. 

• How to apply patches to ensure the stability of applications and/or systems at a senior level. 

• How to perform system performance tuning at a senior level. 

• How to perform system troubleshooting methodology at a senior level. 

• How to perform system and/or application security monitoring and enforcement at a senior level. 

• How to create and maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation at a senior level. 

• How to plan, manage, and supervise applications at a senior level. 

• How to identify tasks, milestones, completion criteria, and the creation of timetables at a senior level. 

• How to plan and meet project goals while ensuring quality deliverables at a senior level. 

• How to complete projects in a timely fashion at a senior level. 

• How to plan server and client migration between software releases, such as at a senior level:  • planning for growth, 

• performing disaster recovery planning and implementation; 

• ensuring that the servers are tuned for peak performance 

• How to proactively research and evaluate new technology at a senior level. 

• How to incorporate applicable new technology into existing topologies at a senior level. 

• How to improve server performance and availability at a senior level. 

• How to perform advanced system administration at a senior level.

• How to maximize system security at a senior level. 

• How to create and maintain IP addressing, firewalls, routing, switching, server virtualization management, local and federated account security, system hardening, service and service failover, fault tolerance, and multi-tiered and public cloud configurations.

• How to plan, engineer, implement, deploy, and iterate hybrid infrastructure to accomplish institutional goals.

• How to engineer automation workflows that encumber IaC, including provisioning of infrastructure in a hybrid environment.

Preferred  • Expert knowledge of a major cloud provider architecture (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)
