A Day in the Life Drilling & Completions, Well Work Overs, and Rig Moves Safety and Health Specialist (Upstream)
As a Safety & Health Specialist supporting drilling and completions, well work overs, and rig move operations for our Upstream sector , you'll serve as a trusted safety resource to field leadership, contractors, and operational teams, helping ensure work is planned and executed safely across a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Based in the Wamsutter Field Office , you'll provide direct support to drilling and completion activities, including oversight of active rigs and associated well work operations. Some of the responsibilities specific to this role include: • Partnering with leadership, drilling and completion s teams, and contractors to promote safe execution of drilling, completion, and well intervention activities
• Providing field-based safety support and coaching to personnel working on completion rigs, workover operations, and related construction activities
• Participating in pre-job planning, hazard identification, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate operational risks
• Conducting field inspections, audits, safety engagements, and observations to ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
• Facilitating incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and corrective action follow-up to identify root causes and drive continuous improvement
• Serving as a subject matter resource for contractor safety management, high-risk work activities, permit-to-work systems, energy isolation, and life-critical procedures
• Collaborating with operations and contractor personnel to strengthen hazard recognition, human performance, and safety leadership behaviors
• Supporting emergency preparedness and response efforts while helping maintain operational readiness across geographic area of responsibility
• Monitoring safety performance trends and recommending improvement opportunities that reduce risk and advance operational excellence
• Building strong relationships with field personnel and contractors to foster a culture where safety is a core value and every employee is empowered to identify and address hazards
The Safety & Health Specialist facilitates safety and health standards and procedures, safety training programs and incident investigations. This role requires a solid understanding of EHS Management Systems and safety metrics, and sophisticated knowledge of OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management, behavior-based safety and industry standard methodologies. The ability to develop solutions to sophisticated problems that improve performance, efficiency and safety are keys to success!
Responsibilities/Expectations: • Ensures procedures are in place to achieve process and occupational safety management objectives • Develops and reviews processes, standards and procedures • Works with business partners and coordinates with appropriate support groups to ensure all Process Safety Information is available and in compliance • Develops depth of expertise in a niche area • Coaches and influences peers and supported operations and functional teams on OSHA employee and construction safety and other applicable regulations, policies and procedures • Facilitates and leads incident investigations and hazard/near misses; monitors and closes out action items • Coordinates process safety reviews, plans and audits; provides input to emergency action plans • Trains, develops and presents on safety matters and new regulations • Provides emergency management support and collaborates to perform industrial hygiene activities • Other duties as assigned
Education/Years of Experience:
Safety & Health Specialist III: • Required: High school diploma/GED and minimum four (4) years’ experience in safety or a safety related role
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar recognized Occupational Safety & Health Certification(s) or CCPS (Process Safety Professional Certification)
Safety & Health Specialist IV: • Required: High school diploma/GED and minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience in safety or a safety related role
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar recognized Occupational Safety & Health Certification(s) or CCPS (Process Safety Professional Certification)
Shift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements: • Willing to travel up to 50%
Other Requirements: • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application and PC skills • Must possess valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record • Knowledge of ICS
