About this role
Aescape is a New York-based physical AI and robotics company redefining human recovery through intelligent, precision bodywork, elevating it into a consistent, outcomes-driven practice.
Powered by real-time body mapping, advanced robotics, and proprietary software, Aescape delivers deeply personalized bodywork that continuously adapts to the individual. This creates a superior way for members to move with greater ease, recover more efficiently, and optimize how they feel every single day.
Aescape is building a defining brand for recovery, shifting behavior from a sporadic experience into a progressive, measurable routine, unlocking compounding benefits that build lasting resilience and laying the groundwork for an entirely new category of proactive human health and performance.
Aescape powers recovery across leading fitness, hospitality, and wellness environments, including Equinox, Life Time, Marriott, Hilton, Four Seasons, Pause Studios, and Remedy Place, and is backed by Valor Equity Partners, BroadLight Capital, and Mecha Ventures.
Aescape is looking for a Robotics Test Engineer to be the technical conscience of Aescape's reliability and manufacturing test program, owning test protocols for bench and life testing on complex robotic mechatronic systems through EVT, DVT and PVT and into mass production, spanning mechanical, electrical and software interfaces. You will build on the existing reliability lab at Aescape HQ and partner directly with our contract manufacturer and key suppliers to implement and project manage tests, fixtures and test software on the factory floor. You will sit within Operations, working closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineering. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
This role is hybrid, based out of our NYC office in Chelsea.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Reliability & Manufacturing Test Program Ownership: Own the end-to-end reliability and manufacturing test program through NPI and into mass production. Define what gets tested and write the test SOPs, protocols and specifications (scope, equipment requirements, sampling rates, pass/fail criteria), validating against the Engineering Requirements Document (ERD). Manage the test fixture build process with suppliers or a third party, and coordinate and run or oversee testing across HQ, the CM and third-party facilities, ensuring test data is uploaded and reviewed promptly, with failures triaged immediately in partnership with the supplier. Analyze the data and report results to Engineering and Operations for approval.
- HQ Reliability Lab & Environmental/Life Testing: Maintain and develop the existing Aescape HQ reliability lab, commissioning equipment and fixtures as needed and ensuring calibration and lab discipline. Plan and execute environmental and life testing in-house or co-ordinate via a third-party lab, aligned to standards such as MIL-STD-810, IEC 60068, IPC and HALT/HASS where appropriate.
- Factory & Supplier Test Implementation: Define and deploy reliability and manufacturing tests and test scripts at our contract manufacturer and key suppliers, project managing test fixture development by the CM and suppliers through to implementation.
- Failure Analysis & Root Cause: Lead failure analysis on parts and assemblies from HQ, third-party lab, and supplier testing; work with Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineering to drive issues to root cause and close out corrective actions back into the design and test protocol.
- International Travel: ~10% international travel required (to CM and supplier sites).
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Education & Experience: BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Test or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years of reliability and test engineering experience in a hardware product environment (robotics, consumer electronics, or similar).
- Reliability Test Mindset: You approach every test with a clear question in mind, what could fail, how, and when, and hunt failures to root cause, staying with them until corrective actions are verified, not just identified.
- Coding Fluency: Strong Python (or equivalent) for test automation, data parsing and analysis; able to write production-quality test scripts and data-processing pipelines independently.
- Process-Driven & Detail-Oriented: Highly disciplined about following, documenting and improving processes; writes clear procedures, test SOPs, specifications and reports, and validates tests against engineering requirements documentation; adheres precisely to established test protocols and catches inconsistencies others miss.
- Hands-On Lab Engineering: Comfortable specifying, commissioning and operating reliability test equipment including life rigs, data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes and electrical loads. Able to build or oversee the build of test fixtures.
- Contract Manufacturer & Supplier Partnership: Experience working directly with contract manufacturers and suppliers to implement and project manage tests, test fixtures and test software on the factory floor.
- Statistical Rigour & Sampling: Strong grasp of statistical analysis including distributions, control limits, capability studies (Cpk), Gauge R&R, DOE, hypothesis testing, sampling rates/plans (AQL) and accelerated-life models (Weibull). Working knowledge of reliability test standards (e.g. MIL-STD-810, IEC 60068, HALT/HASS). Use data rather than opinion to make pass/fail and design decisions.
- Communication & Collaboration: Strong verbal and written skills for presenting test findings and providing clear documentation of work.
- Adaptability: Comfortable with ambiguity and able to pivot as priorities shift in a fast-moving startup; willing to take on tasks outside your core role when required.
- 3D Modelling: Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tool for fixture and test rig design review.
- LabVIEW: Proficiency preferred (CLAD or higher).
