RN Staff (Pre-op/PACU) - Surgery Center

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 32 WORK SHIFT: Primary shift is 0600-1430. No weekends or holidays.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible and accountable for a group of patients during a designated time and to provide care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members.  The peri anesthesia nurse is accountable for planning and directing the pre-operative and post-operative care of every patient undergoing operative and invasive procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Current Louisiana RN License • Graduate of a NLN accredited school of nursing • Current BLS and ALS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to:  Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross.  The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.  • PALS certification required within 6 months of hire through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to:  Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross.  The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.  • Ability to work flexible shifts • Ability to float to Pre-Op/Post-Op Department as needed/assigned

Preferred Qualifications: • Two (2) years current medical-surgical, critical care or same day surgery experience preferred • Pediatric experience preferred • PACU experience preferred or cross-trained within 6 months of hire

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess good physical health.  Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.  Lifting at least 20 pounds is required.  Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise. Physical Effort required:         Constant (67%-100%) - seeing Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing Occasionally (1%-33%) - climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), stooping, crouching
