About this role
The Senior OR Level II Research Laboratory Infrastructure Engineer will join the Laboratory IT Services (LITS) team within Research Information Systems (RIS) to provide technology services, support, consultation, and innovative solutions to St. Jude research faculty and laboratories. This role serves as a key technical partner to researchers, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of laboratory computing infrastructure and research technologies that support critical scientific discovery.
The successful candidate will leverage expertise in systems administration, networking, information security, and troubleshooting to support a diverse research environment. This position collaborates closely with faculty, laboratory staff, and IT teams to design, implement, and maintain infrastructure solutions across Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms. Experience supporting complex technology environments, such as research institutions, universities, manufacturing, or other large-scale technical organizations, is highly valued. Familiarity with biomedical research technologies, high-end scientific instrumentation, high-performance computing environments, and related research systems is preferred.

Senior Level Job Responsibilities: • Oversee configuration and management of the IT infrastructure to support requirements (e.g. data retention, security, business continuity, disaster recovery, information risk management). • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure service delivery methods and procedures. • Lead and manage internal infrastructure through established regulations & standards. • Implement and monitor incident/problem & disaster recovery for infrastructure support. • Manage and provide current systems usage statistics, provide future projected growth estimates based on customer’s demand. • Partner with internal teams to develop prioritization, metrics, and processes around capacity planning and infrastructure availability. • Periodically present capacity planning and performance reports to senior leaders during presentations and meetings. • Benchmark, analyze, and make recommendations for improvement of IT infrastructure. • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field of study required. • Master's degree preferred.
Minimum Experience: • Minimum experience: Four (4) years of IT experience with experience in infrastructure operations and engineering environments. • Experience or familiarity supporting large-scale industrial technology (manufacturing, aerospace, university research, etc.), including networking, information security, troubleshooting, and related topics are preferred. • Experience with biomedical research, high-end instrumentation, high-performance computing, and related topics are preferred. • Experience with system administration across multiple operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, and Linux distributions strongly preferred. • Experience in infrastructure design, systems analysis, and security management. • Some experience working with commercial models around infrastructure capacity procurement. • Experience in customer service and vendor management. • Some experience in business stakeholder engagement and management. • Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role.
