Job Posting Title: Research Engineering/Scientist Assistant I ---- Hiring Department: Dell Medical School ---- Position Open To: All Applicants ---- Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 ---- FLSA Status: Exempt from FLSA ---- Earliest Start Date: Immediately ---- Position Duration: Expected to Continue Until Feb 28, 2031 ---- Location: AUSTIN, TX ---- Job Details: General Notes The Department of Pediatrics at the Dell Medical School is looking for Research Engineering/Scientist Assistant. Employment is based on continuation of grant funding.
Purpose This is a lab staff position to support the Stephen Ekker research program and to further develop our gene editing research efforts.
Responsibilities • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with other members of the research team, actively participating in lab meetings and discussions. Present research progress and findings in regular lab meetings and potentially at scientific conferences. • Data Collection and Analysis: Accurately record experimental data and assist in data analysis using various software tools and statistical methods. Collaborate with other Ekker lab researchers including students to interpret and present findings effectively. • Lab and Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and instruments and assist with inventory management of laboratory supplies. • Laboratory Experiments: Perform a range of experimental molecular, gene editing and genomics techniques and procedures related to mitochondrial biology and metabolism. • This includes but is not limited to tissue sample preparation, cell culture, molecular biology assays, and microscopy. Support the maintenance of zebrafish strains. • Other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related scientific field. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Prior laboratory research experience in molecular biology
Salary Range $38,000 + depending on qualifications
