The School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) is seeking a Research Advancement Administrator (Pre-Award) to join our Research Advancement Team. This position partners closely with faculty to develop competitive research proposals while ensuring compliance with university, sponsor, and federal requirements. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple competing deadlines, communicate effectively with a group of stakeholders, and provide outstanding customer service throughout the proposal development process. Essential Duties: • Coordinate the development, preparation, review, and submission of sponsored research proposals for faculty.
• Develop proposal budgets and budget justifications in accordance with sponsor guidelines, federal regulations, and university policies.
• Interpret funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) and advise faculty on sponsor requirements, proposal strategies, eligibility, and compliance.
• Coordinate proposal submissions with faculty, collaborators, subrecipients, and university research administration offices to ensure complete and timely submissions.
• Review proposals for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and adherence to sponsor and institutional requirements prior to submission.
• Provide exceptional customer service by serving as the primary point of contact for faculty and research teams throughout the pre-award process.
• Maintain proposal records, documentation, and reporting within university systems while ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and perform other duties assigned to support the research mission of the school.
• Normally receive no instructions on routine work and general instructions on new assignments with review of completed tasks.
• Exercises judgment within generally defined practices & policies in selecting methods & techniques for obtaining solutions.
Desired Qualifications: • Experience in pre-award sponsored research administration within a higher education or research environment.
• Experience developing proposal budgets and budget justifications for federal, state, industry, or foundation sponsors.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal regulations, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and sponsor guidelines.
• Experience interpreting funding opportunity announcements and coordinating complex proposal submissions.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
• Evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and customer service skills when working with faculty, staff, and external partners.
Working Environment: • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended period of sitting.
• Daily use of a desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds.
