Job Description:
We are seeking a Regulatory Compliance Engineer to support our office in Roseville, California
Key Responsibilities • Design and evaluate engineering solutions for electrical and electronic components, subsystems, integrated circuitry, and algorithms in accordance with established engineering principles, development practices, and applicable regulatory requirements. • Develop and execute test strategies and plans for new and existing product designs, including validation of: • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) • Electromagnetic immunity • Product safety • Reliability • Thermal performance • System power and electrical characteristics • Lead regulatory compliance activities throughout the product development lifecycle, from initial architecture and design through product launch. • Represent the Electrical Hardware organization on global regulatory requirements and ensure compliance considerations are incorporated into product designs early in the development process. • Lead internal and outsourced product development teams in delivering reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality compliance solutions for moderately complex to highly complex products. • Partner with engineering leadership, internal teams, suppliers, OEM/ODM partners, and external development organizations to communicate project status, resolve technical issues, and address regulatory risks. • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less-experienced engineers and team members. • Participate in hardware and material design reviews, including mechanical designs, schematics, PCB layouts, signal integrity, safety, EMC, and test plans, to ensure regulatory requirements are met. • Develop regulatory strategies, define required testing, establish approval schedules, estimate certification costs, and identify key compliance risks for NPI programs. • Manage global product certification activities across engineering teams, test laboratories, suppliers, manufacturing, and OEM/ODM partners. • Review and validate regulatory test reports and prepare documentation packages required for worldwide product approvals and certifications. • Collaborate with Safety Agencies, including UL, CSA, and TÜV, during early design phases to identify potential design constraints and ensure certification requirements are addressed before design freeze. • Work closely with OEM/ODM partners, Supply Chain, NPI, and Manufacturing teams to resolve regulatory issues, including issues that may result in product shipment holds. • Troubleshoot and resolve complex Safety, EMC, EMI, Telecom, and Wireles s design and testing issues, providing recommendations and corrective actions. • Monitor emerging and evolving regulatory requirements and incorporate new regulations into NPI processes, product designs, test specifications, and approval documentation. • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for regulatory questions, compliance requirements, testing standards, and certification documentation.
Required Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline. • 5–10 years of industry experience in electrical/hardware engineering and regulatory compliance. • 5–10 years of experience working with product regulatory compliance and certification. • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. • Experience using electrical engineering design tools and software packages. • Strong understanding of electrical hardware design principles and product development processes.
Preferred Experience & Expertise • Experience working directly with hardware design teams and OEM/ODM partners on new product architectures and technical requirements. • Ability to provide regulatory guidance during schematic, PCB layout, mechanical, material, and hardware design reviews. • Experience developing compliance test plans and conducting or overseeing regulatory testing. • Demonstrated experience managing global product certifications across development, test labs, suppliers, manufacturing, and OEM/ODM organizations. • Strong knowledge of worldwide regulatory requirements and certification processes for information technology and electronic products. • Expert-level knowledge of EMI/EMC, electrical safety, Telecom, and/or Wireless standards and requirements. • Experience working with regulatory and safety agencies such as UL, CSA, and TÜV. • Ability to identify regulatory risks early in the product lifecycle and develop effective mitigation strategies. • Experience resolving compliance issues associated with product shipment holds or certification failures. • Ability to interpret regulatory test results, identify root causes, and recommend design or process changes. • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate complex regulatory requirements to technical and business stakeholders. • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical guidance to cross-functional development teams.
