The Role:
We are looking for a Quantum Success Engineer to join a dynamic, cross-functional team dedicated to driving IonQ’s mission of delivering exceptional experiences for our customers. In this role, you will support and enable users of IonQ’s quantum computers throughout their journey, from initial setup and onboarding to leveraging advanced features. You’ll become an expert on the IonQ Quantum Cloud user experience and usage of the software surrounding our quantum computers, from how admins manage projects to how users execute quantum circuits.
While you’ll work with expert researchers in quantum applications and algorithms, this role does not require deep expertise in quantum information science - rather, you’ll focus on helping those users understand operational logistics, code syntax, and available options for executing their workloads on IonQ’s platform. Similarly, you’ll work closely with our software teams to understand our systems and opportunities for improvement in the user experience, but this role does not require formal experience in software development. However, if you’re interested in bringing your background in quantum information science research or software engineering to a different type of customer-facing role at this intersection, you might be a good candidate for this opportunity.
As a liaison between our customers and technical teams, you’ll help our customers understand our technology while helping our engineering teams understand our customers’ needs. You’ll address support requests, conduct onboarding and user training, and demonstrate new features externally; you’ll also act as a conduit for user feedback, escalate and monitor resolution of issues, and advocate for customer needs internally. As a trusted advisor, this position offers a high-visibility opportunity to influence and inspire both business and highly technical internal and external stakeholders, ensuring they have the best possible experience on our platform
If you’re a technical generalist and a fast learner, you can effectively translate among domains (physics, computer science, business) with the right level of technical depth, and you’re enthusiastic about hands-on debugging and problem solving, you might be a good fit for this role.
Responsibilities :
• Become a subject matter expert on IonQ’s user-facing quantum computing software, production systems, and ecosystem integrations
• Answer user questions, troubleshoot incidents, and assist with internal investigation, acting as the primary interface between IonQ customers and our software and system operations teams
• Provide technical implementation guidance to customers regarding platform administration, software integration, workflow orchestration, and other topics
• Facilitate onboarding sessions to help new users get up and running on IonQ systems
• Collect customer feedback and feature requests, identify challenges and technical blockers, and advocate for customer-driven improvement to IonQ’s core products
• Contribute to developer documentation, training materials, new feature demos, and other enablement-focused content
• Support the development of internal tools, metrics, and processes for understanding and monitoring how customers use IonQ products and what they need to be successful
• Participate in on-site customer engagements, industry conferences, and other events to connect with IonQ customers and the broader quantum community
Requirements:
• MS in Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field, especially with computational focus OR Graduate-level training or equivalent hands-on experience in a computational, quantitative field (e.g., Physics, Computer Science, Applied Math, Engineering)
• 5+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles or equivalent, with a proven track record of performance and goal achievement
• Experience in user support, developer relations, solutions engineering, or another technical role involving user enablement
• Hands-on experience with Python and Jupyter Notebook, Google Colab, or similar platforms
• Demonstrated experience communicating technical concepts to business stakeholders and technical subject matter experts, including across different technical domains
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD in Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field, especially with computational focus
• Demonstrated experience with quantum computing frameworks and SDKs such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, CUDA-Q, etc.
• Familiarity with quantum information science, applications, and algorithms
• Experience with SaaS platforms, REST APIs, and/or HPC systems
• Proficiency in SQL; experience in data science or data analytics
• Experi
