Position Summary The Project Manager, Enterprise Delivery and Process Improvement supports the execution of complex, cross-functional initiatives across Washington University's academic, clinical, and administrative enterprise. Reporting to the Senior Director of Enterprise Process Management, this role provides disciplined project management, process analysis, and implementation support for initiatives approved by senior leadership.
This is a hands-on delivery role focused on keeping initiatives on track, surfacing risks early, and supporting cross-functional teams in translating approved plans into measurable outcomes. The Project Manager operates without budget or decision-making authority and instead serves as an execution partner to functional leaders and initiative owners across the institution.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Execution • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including milestones, timelines, dependencies, resource requirements, and risk registers for assigned initiatives. • Translate approved business cases and delivery plans into actionable work plans in coordination with functional owners and initiative sponsors. • Monitor day-to-day project progress, track deliverables, and ensure commitments are met on schedule. • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, status reports, and dashboards for leadership visibility.
Cross-Functional Coordination • Coordinate cross-functional working teams across academic, clinical, and administrative units to advance initiative delivery. • Facilitate working sessions, team meetings, and workshops to drive alignment, resolve issues, and maintain momentum. • Serve as a central point of contact for project communications, ensuring all stakeholders remain informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle. • Partner with functional owners to clarify roles, responsibilities, and accountability at each phase of delivery.
Process Improvement Support • Support process mapping, workflow analysis, and redesign efforts using structured improvement methodologies including Lean, Six Sigma, or design thinking as appropriate. • Assist in identifying inefficiencies, redundancies, and opportunities for service delivery improvement across assigned initiative areas. • Document current and future state workflows and support implementation of redesigned processes in partnership with functional teams. • Contribute to the development of shared tools, templates, and playbooks that build institutional delivery capability.
Risk and Issue Management • Proactively identify, document, and escalate risks, bottlenecks, and execution issues to the Senior Director in a timely manner. • Maintain a project risk log and support the development of mitigation strategies in collaboration with functional owners and initiative sponsors. • Track and communicate the status of open issues, decisions, and action items across project teams.
Benefits Realization and Reporting • Support tracking of implementation progress and benefits realization in partnership with functional owners and initiative sponsors. • Prepare clear, concise status updates, executive summaries, and project reports for leadership review. • Contribute to post-implementation reviews to capture lessons learned and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

More About This Job Salary Information: The targeted salary range for this position is $100,000 to $115,000 annually.
Required Qualifications • Five years of project or program management experience in a complex, cross-functional environment. • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, public administration, operations, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or a complex service organization. • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or design thinking. • Experience supporting organizational change management efforts.

Salary Range $84,200.00 - $148,500.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
