Adjunct Faculty Project Management Department of Accounting and Finance UMGC Stateside Location: San Diego, CA

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at San Diego, CA, in the Operations program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course(s):

Data, Cybersecurity, and AI in Business Strategy   (BMGT 250): An interdisciplinary introduction to data analysis, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI) in business operations and decision-making. The goal is to collect, process and analyze business data, identify cybersecurity threats; and explore AI fundamentals for business applications. Topics include data processing techniques, cybersecurity risk analysis, and practical AI tools.

Project Management II (BMGT 488) An examination of project management processes and applications beyond introductory principles and concepts. The goal is to manage a project through all phases of the project life cycle. Emphasis is on the practical applications of project management principles and processes in real-world situations. Projects depict real-world situations, such as information systems implementations; service business/e-commerce projects; and consulting projects that occur in research, information systems, manufacturing, and engineering firms.

Project Management I (BMGT 487) An introduction to the terminology, principles, concepts, and practices of project management. The goal is to demonstrate the skills required to manage a project through all project phases, such as scope, scheduling, and cost. Traditional, agile, and hybrid project management approaches are compared to present key considerations of each method. The importance of soft skills like communication and stakeholder engagement is also underscored.

Foundations of Project Management (PMAN 634): An overview of the theory and practice of managing projects in any organization or industry using traditional, agile, and hybrid methodologies. All three skill sets of the Project Management Institute Talent Triangle are addressed: Technical Project Management, Leadership, and Strategic and Business Management and provide a foundational project management knowledge and skill base that is highly relevant to workplace project challenges.

Project Schedule, Cost, and Resource Management (PMAN 635): An in-depth coverage of the logical and conceptual progression of a project from scope to schedule and budget, developed in the context of traditional project management, and then adapted to the agile and hybrid approaches. Aspects of resource management that relate to schedule and cost are also addressed. Emphasis is on cultivating practical and workplace-relevant skills, tools, and techniques essential for effectively estimating, modeling, and managing schedule and budget, and for addressing the associated uncertainties, imperatives, and challenges encountered in real-life projects.

Required Education and Experience: • Master’s degree in Project Management, Operations, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.

• Professional experience in Project Management or related field.

• Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate or extensive project management experience

• Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred. 

• This position is designated to teach on-site at San Diego, CA.

Preferred Education and Experience: • Terminal degree in Management, Operations, or a related field of learning.

Your role as an adjunct faculty member will be to:  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations. 

• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
