The Role The Product Interface (PI) Engineer serves as the primary liaison between Body Manufacturing Engineering (ME Body) and Product Engineering. In this role, you will ensure product designs are driven by manufacturing needs through the effective application of Manufacturing Requirements (MRs) and Best Practices (BPs). You will help enable global inter-buildability, maintain high levels of static quality, and align product development with GM’s Lean manufacturing principles and systems. PI Engineers support programs throughout the entire Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) lifecycle, identify solutions to complex problems, and pursue opportunities to reduce cost.

What You’ll Do • Collaborate with Product Engineering to ensure Manufacturing Requirements and Best Practices are incorporated into product program design releases.
• Ensure product designs support Common Datum Locating Strategy (CDLS), hole-to-hole, and Body Shop ABC dimensional strategies.
• Ensure product designs support global inter-buildability strategies.
• Develop and execute a Plan for Every Part (PFEP) to support product program execution.
• Manage Manufacturing Concept Sheets and Study Requests, including maintaining accurate tracking logs.
• Manage Engineering Change Management (ECM) changes that impact Body-in-White (BIW).
• Develop and maintain the Product Engineering Drive Cost Increase Tracking Log.
• Develop, submit, and track material orders for tooling integration and buy-off.
• Develop, submit, and track material orders for Manufacturing Validation Events.
• Support the purchased-part sourcing process.
• Support the Issue Resolution Team (IRT) by helping drive integrated resolution of product and process issues during plant builds.
• Support the Vehicle Dimensional Quality Manager (VDQM) and Dimensional Team in achieving nominal body quality and developing and executing the Critical Interface Plan.
• Develop Appendix B1 documentation for Statements of Requirements (SORs).
• Participate in technical reviews.
• Resolve subassembly strategy issues.
Required Qualifications – Your Skills & Abilities • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, plant personnel, and suppliers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex challenges.
• Facilitation and leadership skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to travel locally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications – What Will Set You Apart • 1–2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Body-in-White (BIW) tooling design and build.
• Experience using Teamcenter and VisMockup.
• Familiarity with math-based manufacturing or dimensional processes.
• Familiarity with General Motors North America (GMNA) standards.
• Knowledge of the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) and related deliverables.
