About this role
Patreon is a media and community platform where over 300,000 creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. We offer creators a variety of ways to engage with their fans and build a lasting business including: paid memberships, free memberships, community chats, live video, and selling to fans directly with one-time purchases.
Ultimately our goal is simple: fund the creative class. And we're leaders in that space, with:
- $10 billion+ generated by creators since Patreon's inception
- 100 million+ free memberships for fans who may not be ready to pay just yet, and
- 25 million+ paid memberships on Patreon today.
We're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator platform with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for a Senior Staff Design Manager to support our mission.
This role is based in New York or San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 3 days per week on a hybrid work model.
About the Team
The Design team at Patreon is responsible for the full consumer experience across our creator and fan products. The team spans product design and content design, working across Patreon's core surfaces: memberships, community, live video, and direct sales. Designers here are embedded in cross-functional teams alongside product, engineering, and data, and are expected to drive outcomes, not just deliver assets.
At Patreon, design is fundamental to how we build and how we think about the product. This team reflects that: high craft standards, close partnership with product leadership, and a genuine curiosity about how AI can raise the bar for what we ship
About the Role
As Senior Staff Design Manager, you'll lead a team of 6-7 product designers alongside another senior design manager, and represent the design leadership bench at Patreon.
You'll lead by example in the craft, not just through management: staying close to the work in Figma, prototyping, or production code, while partnering across product and engineering to shape the next chapter of design at Patreon.
You'll also be a strong external voice for the design team, helping build Patreon's reputation as a place where great designers want to work.
What you’ll need:
- You've shipped distinctive consumer software where design was central to the product's market position, not just polish on a working thing, across a range of products or surfaces rather than a single hero project
- You lead by example in the craft, whether in Figma, prototyping, or production code
- You're a proven manager with success across different sizes and shapes of design teams, and you've operated across different configurations (startup, scale, public) rather than running one playbook
- You have real AI fluency: you use tools daily and have driven measurable, team-wide transformation in velocity, quality, or scope
- You have a track record of building and holding high talent density: top designers choose to work for you and stay, and the people you've hired and developed have gone on to become strong leaders themselves
- You're a strategic thought partner across functions, oriented toward shared outcomes rather than territory
- You're a strong external voice for your team's work, brand, and craft
We hire talented and passionate people from different backgrounds because workplace diversity and inclusion is critical to our ability to serve creators worldwide. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t match with every bullet point outlined above, we strongly encourage you to apply anyway. If you’re a creator at heart, are energized by our mission, and share our company values, we’d love to hear from you.
