Position Overview The Police Officer II, under general supervision, prevents and investigates violations of the law, University rules and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Law Enforcement & Public Safety • Patrols University property by vehicle, Golf Cart, Trikke, or on foot.
• Enforces criminal laws and Transportation Code violations of the State of Texas.
• Reports violations of university rules and regulations.
• Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances.
• Issues citations and takes enforcement action as appropriate.
• Guards and transports prisoners.
Emergency Response & Investigations • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and takes appropriate action.
• Takes reports and conducts preliminary investigations.
• Assists other law enforcement agencies and community departments as needed.
• Testifies in Justice of the Peace, County, and District Courts, as well as student judicial hearings.
Community Relations & Operational Support • Interacts with students, faculty, staff, and the public through daily contact.
• Provides assistance and customer service to the public whenever possible.
• Maintains professional relationships with the University community and external agencies.
• Safely operates and properly maintains departmental vehicles and equipment.

Required Qualifications • Education – High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience – One year of experience as a licensed Police Officer.
Required Licenses and Certifications • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification.
• Must have a State of Texas class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience – Three years of related experience in patrol field operations. Patrolling, Report writing
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
• Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
• Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, staff and facility
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Other Requirements Other Requirements and Factors • This position is security sensitive
• Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
• Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
• This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
