The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist – Pediatric Critical Care provides advanced clinical pharmacy services for critically ill pediatric patients at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary critical care team, this pharmacist collaborates with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other caregivers to optimize medication therapy for some of the most complex neonatal and pediatric patient populations across the enterprise. The role primarily supports the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) while providing clinical coverage across the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), and evening pediatric critical care services. Responsibilities include participating in direct patient care, therapeutic drug monitoring, medication management, interdisciplinary rounds, and evidence-based clinical decision-making to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care in a highly specialized pediatric critical care environment.

A caregiver in this position will work a combination of day and evening shifts, including 7:00am–3:30pm, 1:00pm–9:30pm, and 11:00am–10:25pm based on departmental needs. Caregivers participate in an every-eighth-weekend rotation and work one rotating holiday each year.

This position is based at Main Campus and provides clinical coverage across multiple Pediatric Critical Care service lines, including the PICU, NICU, PCICU, and evening pediatric critical care services.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   • Routinely and continually provide pharmaceutical care for patients, considering their age and clinical condition. 

• Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and, and other health care professionals. 

• Support Clinical Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction and formal educational programs. 

• Maintain expertise in areas of practice through continual learning, journal review and other educational activities. 

• Educate Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Post-Graduate Trainees and other caregivers in Pharmacotherapy within in the specialty area.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   • PharmD or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy 

• Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire   

• For individuals required to administer immunizations, current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross certification and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required.   For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events, current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA), or certification obtained within one (1) year of hire, is required.

• Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   • Board certification 

Physical Requirements : • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time.  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs. • Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting. • Must have normal or corrected vision. • Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person
