40 Summary:
Cook Children’s Pediatric ICU, in Fort Worth, Texas, is currently recruiting for a full-time Pediatric Critical Care Specialist to join our Critical Care Medicine Department. Candidates must be board certified/eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, be licensed/licensable to practice in Texas, and have superior clinical and interpersonal skills. Our Level I Pediatric Intensive Care Unit consists of 49 PICU beds. The Intensivists provide 24/7 in-house coverage, partnered with experienced and highly engaged advanced practice providers. Our team admits more than 3200 patients per year, and over 25 pediatric subspecialties actively support the PICU. We care for a diverse patient population including kidney transplants, bone marrow transplants, and neurosurgical patients. We collaborate with the pediatric surgical team in care of trauma patients, and our hospital is designated a pediatric Level II trauma center. Cook Children’s hospital has an active ECMO program (VV and VA) and has consistently been named an ECMO Center of Excellence. We have an active Neuro ICU within our unit that admits approximately 600 patients per year. We have a dedicated Neurocritical Care service attended by each of our intensivists that includes daily rounds with Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuroradiology, Rehabilitation Services and Critical Care. Of note, our Cardiac ICU is a separate department, and this position will not include clinical time in the Cardiac ICU.
Many on our team also staff our Pediatric ICU at Cook Children’s Prosper campus that has been open since 2023. This 10-bed ICU is part of a stand-alone hospital that admits over 1,000 patients per year. At this location, we also have support from an advanced practice provider along with consultation from a full range of pediatric subspecialists. Cook Children’s Prosper continues to increase its scope of care, offering 24-hour EEG monitoring, advanced respiratory support, and pursuing Level 3 trauma designation. Our physicians find that working in this PICU is gratifying given the consistent growth, opportunities for teaching staff, and ability to develop cohesiveness between the two campuses.
Cook Children’s primarily partners with TCU Burnett School of Medicine and UNT Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. While we frequently host 4th-year medical students for electives, the hospital generally has no residents or fellows. This allows for fulfilling, front-line provision of care from our intensivists and close collaboration with subspecialist attendings.
Cook Children's is honored to continually receive recognition for our outstanding efforts and outcomes in pediatric health care. We are consistently ranked by U.S. News and World Report within the top 50 Best Children's Hospitals. One of Cook Children’s most prestigious awards is being Magnet® designated, the international gold standard of nursing excellence, five consecutive times. Given the outstanding culture, collaborative environment, and engaging support from administration, Cook Children’s is also highly ranked on Forbes America’s Best Large Employers list.
