Department CSL SHS: Medical Providers About the Department Student Wellness at the University of Chicago offers primary and acute healthcare needs and routine medical services to the student body, and includes the specialties of general internal medicine, family practice, gynecology, sports medicine, travel medicine, and minor urgent care. Student Wellness provides clinical services to eligible students and their dependents. Job Summary Reporting to the Medical Director, the Physician works in the Medical Services of the Student Wellness Center as a comprehensive primary care and urgent care provider. With a focus on providing holistic, integrated care, the Physician collaborates with other health professionals to provide high-quality medical care for students at the University of Chicago. Routine duties include taking comprehensive medical histories from patients, performing physical exams, assessing medical concerns and developing evidence-based treatment plans.

This is a 12-month, part-time (0.5 FTE) position with an anticipated work schedule of approximately 20 hours per week. Responsibilities • Provides comprehensive, evidence-based medical care, including patient assessment, diagnosis, diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, and medication management. • Performs office-based minor surgical procedures, including but not limited to suturing of lacerations and incision and drainage of abscesses. • Provides health maintenance and disease prevention through evidence-based screening, counseling, and immunization practices. • Maintains accurate and timely electronic health record (EHR) documentation in accordance with clinical policies, protocols, and regulatory requirements. • Coordinates care and communicates with external healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, to support continuity of care. • Participates in quality improvement and safety activities and supports measurement and reporting of clinical outcomes as required. • Provides patient education and counseling to support understanding of diagnoses, treatment plans, and health conditions. • Contributes to accreditation related tasks including policy development, QI initiatives, and peer review projects as required by the Medical Director. • Adheres to professional guidelines and best practices, including those created at University of Chicago Medicine. • Recognizes mental health concerns and coordinates timely referral to behavioral health colleagues for further evaluation and management. • Participates in departmental and University activities as assigned. • Participates in off-campus programs, including health promotion outreach activities. • Maintains compliance with departmental policies and procedures, including quality assurance, patient safety, infection control, and regulatory standards. • Collaborates with other health professionals to provide comprehensive primary care for the entire population of University students. Recommends medication for students with complex health problems using best practices within primary care. • Leads programs that promote health maintenance and prevention, including routine feminine care. Leads, collaborates and coaches mid-level providers. • Provides healthcare and patient services including educational, research, and clinical nursing specialist support. Gathers pertinent health information and provides comprehensive direct patient care with moderate guidance and direction from others.

• Performs necessary record-keeping, analysis, and reporting of clinical outcomes. Assists the care team with patient counseling in adapting to, and coping with, their changing health status. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. • ​Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: ---

Preferred Qualifications

Education: • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school. • Timely and complete satisfaction of disciplinary and State continuing education requirements.

Experience: • At least 7+ years of primary care experience. • Experience working with a college age population.

Certifications: • Eligibility for a current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois. • Completion of an accredited residency in a primary care specialty (Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics or Internal Medicine). • Board-certified or board-eligible in the appropriate primary care specialty. • DEA registration. • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR.) • Maintenance of board certification and up-to-date medical skills.

Preferred Competencies • General knowledge of the developmental and maturity challenges of adolescents and young adults. • High level of sensitivity in situations of confidentiality and discretion. • Qualified to have an appointment as a Clinical Associate in the applicable specialty department.
