About this role
WPHL-TV is seeking a part time News Producer! In this role you would produce daily newscasts, decide the order in which stories will be told, write teases and other content, time news programs, and posts news content across all media platforms. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: •Deciding which stories are of most interest to our news viewers •Work with news management and other producers to create the show’s rundown and manage workflow for a team, that includes other producers, photographer/editors, and others •Contribute to the overall editorial process in the newsroom •Determine the order in which stories will be told in broadcasts and balances news and feature content to create compelling newscasts •Ability to see big picture and assist with the execution of strategic and brand initiatives •Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media •Coordinates with other staff and control room staff to ensure newscasts are clean; producer is proactive about troubleshooting problems and responding to breaking news •Time broadcasts and ensure they are clean and correct on the air •Demonstrates a sense of urgency when covering breaking news •Serves as a leader in the newsroom, helping to train less-experienced staff •Ability to execute under tight deadlines •Detail oriented •Assign reporters and photographers, as needed •Fill in for producers of other newscasts, as needed and in emergency situations •Checks video formats to ensure video will play on air •Ensures station compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal laws •Write informative and detailed web platform stories that include links and additional information viewers will find useful •Remains calm in stressful situations •Edits video using non-linear editing programs •Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills: •Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field of equivalent combination of education and work experience •Minimum two years’ experience working in news •Must be able to interact well with video journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, production and engineering staff. •Fluency in English with strong spelling and grammar •Excellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skills •Proficient in non-linear editing •Ability to multi-task, and work in demanding, high-pressure situations •Must maintain a professional work appearance and conduct themselves as a professional
Other: •Note: the station is not easily accessible by public transportation •Hours for the role are overnight, and will likely be 12:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
