Operating Room Assistant, Full Time, Days

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB  

Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary surgical team to   assist   with operating room set-up and turn-over to enable efficient use of operating room scheduling time.  

REPORTS TO  

• Operating Room Manager  

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Number of Direct Reports:    

Minimum Education :   High School Diploma or equivalent required .  

License/Certification Required:   Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) or Medical Assistant (MA) preferred  

Minimum Work Experience:   Prior   patient care tech   experience preferred  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  

• Strong verbal and written communication skills  

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member  

• Ability to remain calm in fast-paced or emergency situations  

• Ability to multi-task and have strict attention to detail  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Operating Room Turnover:   Expedite   room turnaround times between surgeries by thoroughly clearing, cleaning, and disinfecting beds, tables, and equipment.   

• Patient Transport & Positioning:   Safely escort surgical patients to and from pre-op, the OR, and post-anesthesia care (PACU).   Assist   nurses in turning and positioning patients on the operating table.   

• Supply Chain:   stock   non- sterile supplies, linens,   masks , and   scrub supplies   in the OR and sub-sterile core areas.   

• Equipment Management:   Set up specialized equipment (e.g., warming blankets, hydraulic lifts)   

• Specimen Handling:   T ransport biological specimens and lab samples to the   pathology   specimen room   or clinical lab following   confidentiality   protocols.   

Obtain blood products from the blood bank.  

• Environmental Control:   Maintain   a safe, hazard-free, and infection-controlled surgical environment by adhering strictly to universal precautions.   

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.  

• Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 5 0 lbs occasionally, 20-30lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly   moving   objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting ,   squatting, reaching, and   prolonged   standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be   required .
