Position Summary / Career Interest: The Oncology Nurse Float provides professional nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions • Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills. Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently for the care of each patient.

• Assesses and interprets the patient status utilizing physical assessment, laboratory and diagnostic procedure results, and the patient interview. Uses this information to provide patient care utilizing the nursing process.

• Demonstrates knowledge and skill in all aspects of IV therapy, i.e., hydration, chemotherapy, biotherapy, and blood products.

• Manages patient care based on knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and side effects of such treatment.

• Provides education to the patient and family regarding disease and treatment plan.

• Contributes to the orientation, education, and evaluation of new staff and the community.

• Consults with members of the interdisciplinary team regarding pertinent patient issues and collaborates with research staff regarding ongoing studies. • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience • High School Graduate • Associate Degree Nursing (or higher degree)

Preferred Education and Experience • Bachelor Degree Nursing in Nursing Must complete BSN within 5 years of hire as RN • 1 or more years med surg/acute care • 1 or more years oncology experience

Required Licensure and Certification • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing Must have current active multistate state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in state in which you live. Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 are required to obtain a multistate state RN license from the state in which they live at the time of their next RN license renewal by 4/30/2026.

Preferred Licensure and Certification • Chemo Certification - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)
