Your role. Join Plante Moran’s National Tax Office and help shape the future of tax consulting. We are seeking an intellectually curious and entrepreneurial professional interested in developing deep expertise in partnership taxation, mergers and acquisitions, transaction planning, and technology-enabled consulting solutions. This role combines sophisticated technical tax consulting with opportunities to help develop AI-enabled tools, automation solutions, models, templates, and knowledge assets. You will work directly with experienced tax consultants, attorneys, CPAs, and transaction specialists on complex tax matters while building skills that can support a long-term career as a technical specialist, thought leader, and practice builder.
Your work will include, but not be limited to: Technical tax consulting • Analyze tax issues associated with mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and other business transactions. • Assist with partnership tax consulting projects involving allocations, basis adjustments, partnership formations, restructurings, and other Subchapter K matters. • Conduct technical tax research and prepare memoranda, technical analyses, and client deliverables. • Support transaction modeling, structuring projects, and planning analyses involving partnerships and flow-through entities. • Assist with the development of tax planning recommendations for clients and engagement teams. • Gain exposure to projects across industries, including manufacturing and distribution, services, investment funds, private equity, and energy.
Innovation and technology • Help develop and improve AI-enabled tax consulting solutions. • Assist with building templates, tools, models, and automation solutions supporting partnership and transaction tax consulting. • Explore emerging technologies that can improve technical research, knowledge management, project execution, and consulting delivery. • Collaborate with technical specialists and innovation professionals on pilot initiatives and process improvements. • Bring ideas, curiosity, and energy to help improve how sophisticated tax consulting services are delivered.
Entrepreneurial growth • Contribute ideas for new service offerings and client solutions. • Identify opportunities to improve existing processes, templates, tools, and approaches. • Participate in practice development initiatives and specialty practice projects. • Develop into a future National Tax Office technical specialist with exposure to complex client matters and internal firmwide consulting needs.
The qualifications. Required • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Master’s in Taxation, JD, or related degree. • CPA candidate, CPA, JD, or active pursuit of professional credentials. • Strong interest in technical tax consulting, transaction tax matters, and complex federal tax issues. • Exceptional research, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. • Intellectual curiosity and desire to develop specialized technical expertise. • Entrepreneurial mindset, ambition, and willingness to take initiative. • Comfort working in a collaborative environment with partners, managers, staff, and cross-functional teams.
Preferred • Exposure to partnership taxation, corporate taxation, transaction-related tax matters, or complex tax research. • Demonstrated interest in tax law, M&A, business transactions, or technical tax consulting. • Experience using technology, automation, analytics, AI tools, or process improvement approaches. • Strong academic record and commitment to continued professional development. • Interest in thought leadership, innovation, and practice development. • Prior internship, public accounting, law firm, corporate tax, or consulting experience is helpful but not required for all candidates.
