About this role

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will serve as the critical liaison between engineering, operations, manufacturing, and supply chain organizations, ensuring configuration integrity across all vehicle builds. You will be responsible for driving an accurate engineering bill of materials (eBOMs) that supports successful execution by the operations team. Your work will ensure consistency and traceability of configuration across multiple vehicle units while supporting seamless transitions from engineering to production. As a project engineer within the Lunar MK2 Vehicle Team, you will support a passionate team of contributors and experts across multiple IPTs. In this role, you will help shape the configuration management strategy for vehicle assemblies, ensuring that eBOMs are properly structured, maintained, and communicated to all downstream stakeholders.

You will define control points within the eBOM structure, manage effectivity across vehicle serial numbers, and ensure that manufacturing and operations teams have the correct configuration data to execute builds successfully. You will work closely with design engineers to translate design intent into manufacturable, traceable configurations, while partnering with operations to ensure their needs are reflected in the eBOM structure.

We are seeking a self-motivated and highly organized individual with a strong mechanical engineering and configuration management background who can work independently to ensure configuration integrity across the vehicle fleet. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Support maintenance of engineering bills of materials (eBOMs) for vehicle assemblies, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper structure to support operations execution. • Serve as the primary liaison between engineering and operations teams, translating engineering requirements into actionable configuration data • Define and implement configuration control points within the eBOM structure to support manufacturing flow and vehicle traceability • Manage configuration effectivity across multiple vehicle serial numbers, ensuring proper as-designed, as-built, and as-flown configuration tracking • Establish and maintain BOM structure standards and best practices to optimize manufacturing execution • Partner with IPTLs and design engineers to ensure eBOM structure supports design intent, manufacturability, and operational needs • Coordinate configuration changes across vehicle units, assessing impact to hardware already in production or fielded • Lead configuration management reviews and audits to ensure data integrity and compliance with program requirements • Develop and implement demand planning signals based on eBOM configuration to support procurement and manufacturing scheduling • Create configuration status reports and metrics for vehicle builds, identifying configuration risks and discrepancies • Support root cause investigations for configuration-related issues and implement corrective actions • Facilitate communication between engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality to resolve configuration conflicts • Ensure manufacturing work instructions, drawings, and tooling align with current eBOM configuration • Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline configuration management processes and increase operations team efficiency

Preferred Qualifications: • Significant configuration management experience with complex mechanical assemblies and multi-unit vehicle programs • Deep understanding of eBOM structure, effectivity management, and configuration control practices • Experience defining BOM structures that optimize manufacturing flow and operations execution • Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and how eBOM drives procurement and manufacturing activities • Ability to earn trust and build positive relationships across engineering, operations, and supply chain organizations • Experience serving as liaison between engineering and manufacturing/operations teams • Knowledge of project planning and execution practices, including logic-linked schedule management • Mechanical engineering background with understanding of aerospace assemblies and manufacturing processes • Strong bias for action and ownership demeanor with excellent judgment on risk and decision-making • Experience with Windchill or similar PLM systems for BOM management

Desired: • Experience with Creo & Windchill PLM • Knowledge of space vehicles and launch systems • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles • Experience managing configuration across multiple vehicle serial numbers or fleet management • Familiarity with AS9100 or similar quality management system requirements for configuration control • Experience with Primavera P6 or other project management tools • Experience with Redash or SQL database queries for configuration reporting • Lean Six Sigma Green / Black Belt • MBA or equivalent
