McCombs School of Business is looking for a Course Assistant, and Undergraduate student employee to provide support for IROM MIS 302f/301 course sections.
IROM provides grading and technical assistance to students taking MIS 302f and 301 large lecture format courses. These courses are offered both in-person as well as online through synchronous ZOOM sessions as well as asynchronous sessions. The course assistant will be assigned to either MIS 302f or MIS 301, taught by Dr. Jason Rosenblum or Dr. Liz Moliski.
The Course Assistant will assist with mediating course logistics, holding office hours and grading support.
Responsibilities: • Willing and able to work a dedicated and supervised 10 hrs / week
• Is willing to support the course with logistic, grading and technical support needs
• Is proficient with Excel and with AI basics and who is willing to continue learning to support others
• Is willing to provide zoom office hours and email support using a TA email link
• Is willing to participate as part of an MIS 302f team and to use Microsoft Teams for coordination/communication.
• Is willing to meet regularly (1x/week) to catch up with other course assistants in addition to (if needed) collaborating on course support work.
Required Qualifications: • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must be a University of Texas at Austin student, enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.
• Must be proficient with Excel
• Must be proficient with using Zoom (for online classes)
• Must be proficient with Generative AI use;
• Must be able to work on a team
• Must be able to accept instruction, direction, meet deadlines and maintain accountability
• Must be interested in helping students and willing to learn
• Former MIS 302f or MIS 301 students preferred
Preferred Qualifications: • Data analysis expertise preferred
• Advanced Excel skills preferred
• Prior experience with assisting course grading and technical tasks preferred
Hourly rate: • $12
Working Conditions: • Work performed in standard office conditions.
• Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation.
Schedule Work Shift: • 10 pre-arranged hours per week for each supported course section. To be arranged individually.
• Course Assistants will be hired for these time blocks: • TTh 9:30-10:45 in person
• TTh 1:45 – 3:45pm online on Zoom (includes time before/after class)
• MW 12:30-1:45 online on Zoom
• 1 weekly Friday meeting (time TBD, arranged with the group)
• Course Assistant office hours (time TBD, flexible)
• Other work time weekly based on course grading needs, communicated during the weekly team meeting.
• Position ends on 12/16/2026
• Must be available to occasionally work evenings and weekends based on course demands.
• Rehire eligible based on performance.
