About this role

The Company NorthMark Compute & Cloud (NMC²) is backed by dedicated leadership and investment, with a clear mission as it operates at the bleeding edge of technology. Its goal is to scale and enhance the high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud infrastructure that supports its clients' research, production, and delivery, enabling breakthroughs that shape the industries of tomorrow. Its engineers build critical infrastructure to eliminate friction in scientific research, simulations, analysis, and decision-making, accelerating discovery and driving faster innovation.

The Position We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Manager of Commissioning to serve as the on-site execution authority at our Spartanburg-based HPC facility. This role owns the commissioning lifecycle steps 1–5 on the ground — coordinating with the general contractor and commissioning team, and executing to the standards and framework required to safely and successfully IST each aspect of the project.

The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for all commissioning activities at the Spartanburg facility, coordinating daily with GCs, subcontractors, third-party commissioning agents, and OEM startup technicians as equipment arrives from the factory. This role verifies that FAT/FWT documentation and equipment readiness records are complete before equipment is accepted into the commissioning process, and maintains close coordination with the MEP workstream owner on installation sequencing and site readiness milestones.

Responsibilities: • Oversee commissioning activities across electrical and mechanical systems for large-scale data center construction, ensuring installations meet design intent, code requirements, and owner project requirements. • Coordinate with general contractors, subcontractors, and design engineers to sequence system turnover, resolve field discrepancies, and track punch list closure through to acceptance working directly with 3rd Party Cx Company. • Review and verify testing documentation (e.g., torque records, insulation resistance, grounding, load bank data) for compliance with applicable standards (NETA, NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE). • Support scheduling alignment between commissioning milestones, OFCI equipment, and construction progress, flagging risks to critical path and communicating status to project stakeholders. • Serve as a technical point of contact for field verification, functional testing, and issue resolution across electrical, cooling, and controls infrastructure. • Work with third party CxA to review scripts, schedule, and load banking. • Reinforce the site safety culture; ensure all contractor workforces comply with site safety plans and OSHA standards. • Assist in developing and managing Critical Methods of Procedure (CMOPs) for all high-risk switching, energization, and live-environment work at the Spartanburg facility. • Coordinate first-time energization events; sequencing of electrical systems activation in alignment with the Cx schedule. • Assist in developing switch and load bank plans; ensure all personnel are briefed and compliant with CMOP requirements prior to execution. • Provide regular on-site status updates to the Director, Construction & Commissioning, covering Cx milestone status, field risks, and any MEP-related issues that affect commissioning readiness. • Present at Stakeholder updates and OAC meetings as the on-site Cx authority. • Collaborate with Facilities and Site Operations groups to ensure operational continuity during active construction and commissioning phases.

Requirements: • 5+ years of hands-on commissioning experience in mission-critical environments (data centers, HPC facilities, or industrial). • Direct experience executing commissioning programs in live data center or mission-critical environments. • Demonstrated experience with CMOP development, load bank coordination, integrated systems testing, and first-time energization. • Experience managing FAT/FWT documentation receipt and on-site equipment startup with OEM technicians. • Strong working knowledge of high and low voltage electrical, mechanical/cooling, controls, and fire alarm systems; familiarity with MEP systems sufficient to coordinate effectively across workstreams. • Experience managing third-party commissioning agents on site. • Proficiency with ACC, Primavera P6, Procore, and BIM 360. • Proficiency in CxAlloy. • Exceptional communication, documentation, and on-site problem-solving skills. • OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E certifications (preferred). • Higher Certificate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field (preferred). • Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and ASHRAE standards (preferred). • Experience at hyperscale data center or HPC environments (preferred).
