Job Summary: This person provides direct clinical mental health evaluation and individual and group psychotherapy to the patient population of individuals experiencing an acute mental health crisis. Included in these services are contributing to direct diagnosis and treatment to patients as well as case management duties such as: consultation with Attending physician and other referring providers in the community; admission assessments; clinical evaluation of mental health disorders in conjunction with DSM and ICD 10 codes; coordination of services without patient psychiatric providers if needed, after care following discharge; both outside and internal to the Department of Psychiatry in this or other affiliates; daily/weekly case presentation at internal rounds; contact with significant collateral members of the patient support network; establishment of clinically appropriate post-treatment aftercare plan and contact with community providers/agencies/resources; coordination with volunteer services both internal and external to the organization to supplement and expand programming; coordination with state wide advocacy services and coordination of their time on the units. Timely and accurate documentation is required.
The mental health therapist clinician. is responsible for formulating the plan of care and coordinating treatment for the patient while on inpatient psychiatry. The clinician is also responsible for treatment plan updates, after care planning and written documentation of the discharge plan, including all treatment interventions provided while the patient was in our care. Able to demonstrate professional flexibility and effectively coordinate high acuity patient care with multiple providers.
Provides psychoeducation and skills based psychotherapeutic interventions to individuals receiving care on Inpatient Psychiatry. Daily/weekly evaluation of establish roster of group and individualized to specific patient populations within the milieu. Coordination with the patient care team and development of individual patient therapies. Review and develop of new therapeutic processing groups and techniques to incorporate into existing programming.
Outside of direct patient care, the Mental Health Clinician will participate in committees dedicated to improving patient care.
Education: Applicant must have a necessary education (master’s degree minimum in a related field). Applicant must hold current State of Vermont, Clinical Mental Health Counselor License. A valid LCMHC license is required to apply for this position. Training or certification may be required in a specific area: Case Management, Group Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or Substance Use Treatment.
Experience: At least 3 years direct clinical experience post licensure in an acute or sub-acute mental health setting preferred. A minimum 3 years' direct experience post licensure providing individual, family and group psychotherapy preferred. Training in acute crisis intervention Training in suicide risk assessment and symptom reduction Experience with co-occurring disorders (including substance use disorder and medical complications) and multi-axial diagnostic presentations Familiarity with psychotropic medications and their role in treatment Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary Strongly Preferred: Training and experience in CBT/DBT approach to acute mental health symptom reduction or alleviation. Knowledge of addictive disorders and populations Experience working with a multidisciplinary team Additional clinical certifications and skills in specific clinical specialties are welcomed.
