Functioning as a formalized collaborative structure, the Division of Health Social Work unites interprofessional missions, cultivating synergies that drive impactful, patient-centric care.
A hybrid work schedule (working onsite and remotely) is available for this position after onsite training and successful performance review have been completed.
PURPOSE The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is an integral member of an interdisciplinary, team-based program providing behavioral health services within the Neurosciences service line, including the Neurology and Neurosurgery clinics at UT Health Austin, part of Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. Working collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, the LCSW provides case consultation, complex case management, evidence-based brief interventions, and psychotherapy using a patient-centered approach to address the biopsychosocial needs of individuals with neurological and behavioral health conditions, including chronic illness, chronic pain, adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, and PTSD, while developing individualized care plans that promote resilience, continuity of care, and improved patient outcomes. .
RESPONSIBILITIES • Direct Clinical Assessment and Psychotherapy
Provide evidence-based psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, supportive therapy, and other appropriate interventions, informed by comprehensive biopsychosocial-spiritual assessments and individualized treatment plans for patients with co-occurring physical and behavioral health conditions. Maintain complete and timely clinical documentation in accordance with organizational and division standards. • Consultation and Care Coordination
Conduct case consultations, supportive counseling, and psychoeducation for patients, caregivers, and interdisciplinary care teams. Initiate outreach in response to urgent needs, including critical patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and behavioral health crises, assess psychosocial needs and support systems, and recommend care plan modifications to improve patient functioning, quality of life, and health outcomes. • Interdisciplinary Clinical Collaboration
Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to address psychosocial factors affecting care, including chronic illness, chronic pain, substance use (e.g., tobacco cessation), transportation barriers, and pre- and post-surgical planning, ensuring coordinated, patient-centered care and optimal clinical outcomes. • Psychosocial Support and Chronic Condition Management
Support patients and caregivers in understanding the impact of life factors on chronic pain and other health conditions. Promote coping strategies, psychological resilience, and functional improvement to enhance quality of life and overall well-being. • Interdisciplinary and Community Collaboration
Collaborate with internal interdisciplinary teams and external providers to advance UT Health Austin’s integrated clinical care model. Build and sustain relationships with community behavioral health partners to ensure continuity of care and resource alignment. Support collaboration at the local, regional, and national levels to strengthen professional networks and best practices. • Cross-Coverage and Quality Improvement
Provide coverage in other UT Health Austin clinical programs as needed to ensure continuity of care and meet organizational priorities. Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives within both the Division of Health Social Work and the Neurology clinics
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program • At least 2 year(s) of experience in post-degree clinical experience in a healthcare setting • Current licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Texas.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • 3 year(s) or more of experience in post-degree clinical experience in a healthcare setting. • Experienced in conducting assessments and delivering evidence-based treatments, with working knowledge of brief interventions, motivational interviewing, and healthcare delivery. • Bilingual in English and Spanish. • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
SALARY RANGE $70,000 + depending on qualifications
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT • Standard office equipment and clinic environment. • Repetitive use of a keyboard and computer systems. • May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients, or others.
