About this role

Quick Summary You'll manage third-party homeowners liability claims from FNOL through litigation, working directly with counsel, experts, and claimants on complex casualty files.

Who We Are

Founded in 2016, Kin is a remote-first employer with Kinfolk across more than 35 states. We serve customers in 14 states (and counting). Our disciplined growth, strong customer satisfaction, and focus on long-term sustainability fosters outstanding growth, attracts marquee investors, and earns recognition and accolades, including:

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Liability Claims Adjuster to help us manage a growing volume of third-party homeowners liability claims with the same rigor and customer focus we bring to every part of the claims process. As Kin's book of business expands, this role is critical to protecting our customers and stakeholders through complex casualty files involving bodily injury, property damage, and litigation. You'll bring deep third-party claims expertise to a team that's actively rethinking how insurance should work.

Your Responsibilities

- Investigate coverage, liability, and damages on casualty claim files involving complex issues, severe injuries, and multiple parties

- Conduct recorded statements, consult with police and experts, inspect property damage, and review medical records to build a complete claim picture

- Evaluate liability and damages exposure, including bodily injury and property damage

- Set and adjust reserves based on ongoing investigation findings

- Manage pre-suit and litigation claims with outside counsel, including mediations, depositions, and other litigation events

- Identify and refer potential subrogation or fraud indicators

- Maintain clear, accurate claim file documentation in compliance with state regulations and company guidelines

- Own a caseload of claims from first notice of loss through resolution

- Use AI tools where they support faster, more accurate claims handling, consistent with team practice

Success in This Role

In your first 6–12 months at Kin, success is less about checking boxes and more about the impact you create. You'll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin's mission forward. Along the way, you'll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve.

By the end of your first year, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you've helped make.

- A full caseload of liability claims is being managed accurately and on time, from FNOL through resolution

- Litigation files are progressing smoothly with outside counsel, with no missed deadlines or preventable escalations

- Reserve accuracy has improved through consistent, well-documented investigation practices

- Subrogation and fraud referrals are being caught early and handled appropriately

What You'll Bring

- 1–2 years minimum experience adjusting liability property claims, including bodily injury and property damage

- Direct experience working attorney-represented, litigated claims

- Working knowledge of multiple state insurance laws and good faith claims handling

- Active adjuster license(s) in required states, or ability to obtain one within a defined timeframe

- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with competing deadlines

- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills in claim settlement contexts

- Data-driven, analytical approach to evaluating liability and damages

Bonus if you have:

- Prior carrier experience
