The Opportunity

As the Launch Excellence Lead , you sit at the absolute heart of the Learning Skills Development (LSD) organization. Because Launch & Field Training are our organization's absolute top priority, you are the single-threaded owner responsible for driving an uninterrupted culture of readiness and skill mastery across Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Government Affairs (CMG) during critical product launches. You will lead a high-performing team of Launch Excellence Managers, Squad Business Partners, Field Training Partners, Project Managers, Training Coordinators, and embedded Instructional Designers to pioneer advances in skills management, experiential learning, and workflow enablement. By orchestrating a multidisciplinary team, you ensure that every CMG field professional has the exact skills and clinical insights they need, when and where they need them, to maximize market impact. • Drive Launch Readiness Strategy: Lead the end-to-end launch readiness and field training roadmaps for Genentech’s most critical, next-generation therapeutic launches.

• Lead Ecosystem Capability Teams : Direct a specialized team of Squad Business Partners, Instructional Designers, Field Training Partners, and Project Managers to build and scale best-in-class capability products.

• Cross-Functional Alignment : Partner with marketing squads, medical affairs, compliance, and People & Culture (P&C) to eliminate commercial readiness roadblocks and streamline execution.

• Pioneer Modern Learning Solutions: Embed AI-powered simulations, interactive workshops, and workflow learning tools to accelerate field proficiency across clinical, financial, and market dimensions.

• Operational & Analytics Optimization : Utilize learning analytics and forecasting models to track baseline skills, measure business impact, and optimize resource allocation.

• People Leadership & Talent Development: Cultivate a high-performing, inclusive team culture through continuous coaching, talent development, and strategic workforce planning.

Who You Are • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of Leadership experience in Pharma

• 5+ years proven experience in learning and development, field readiness, or organizational effectiveness at a senior level

• Track record of developing and scaling training programs and learning operations

• Experience building high-performing teams and coaching talent across functions

• Strong understanding of pharmaceutical commercial operations and field roles

• Demonstrated ability to drive strategic initiatives while maintaining focus on business outcomes

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels

• Proficiency with data-driven decision making and learning analytics

Preferred Qualifications • 12+ years of experience in the life sciences or pharmaceutical industry

• 8–10+ years of direct people leadership and a track record of managing other people-managers. 

• Experience with digital learning platforms, AI-powered learning solutions and/or data analytics

• Knowledge of compliance requirements in pharmaceutical training and field readiness

• Experience with onboarding and new hire integration programs

This position is based out of our South San Francisco Genentech Campus. 

Relocation benefits are NOT available on this posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $218,500 - $405,900.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.   A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
