Your Team, Your Impact
As a hardware and silicon validation engineer at Marvell, you’ll be helping to deliver high bandwidth over long distances. This team performs analog validations on amplifiers that drive optical electronic devices and receivers. We also validate silicon photonics, do upper electronic measurements and support the coherent digital signal programming unit. This is a niche area at Marvell, working with cutting edge technologies used by many internal and external customers around the world. What You Can Expect
Test Platform Setup & Maintenance • Set up, debug, and maintain multiple types of validation platforms including Eval Boards (EVB), PVT platforms, and photonic interposer test vehicles
• Promote sanity and regression testing by ensuring proper platforms are running as needed
• Manage firmware and hardware revisions of validation platforms
• Fabricate electrical and mechanical fixtures per test requirements, including custom optical and RF test setups
• Track, schedule, and coordinate equipment repair and calibrations, including optical and RF instruments
• Support lab bench stations including ordering, setup, and ongoing maintenance
Lab Management & Operations • Log, track, and mark test chips, PC boards, and small parts; manage handling, storage, and care
• Maintain calibration records and ensure all lab equipment is properly serviced
• Manage lab asset database and track inventory of hardware components and consumables
• Coordinate facility-related work as needed (lab upgrades, AC service, infrastructure improvements)
• Establish and maintain processes to ensure lab order and structure
PCB Rework & Board Bring-Up • Execute engineering change orders (ECOs) on PCBs down to 0201 package size
• Perform solder rework to modify PCB signal connectivity using jumper wires and similar techniques
• Mount, remove, clean, and reflow BGA chips and connectors
• Perform PCB bring-up and troubleshoot boards down to component level as necessary
• Review schematics and layouts of validation PCBs and identify necessary repairs
• Perform minor FA (failure analysis) on boards and carry out repairs and rework as needed
Hardware Validation & Photonic Systems Support • Provide hands-on support to firmware, validation, packaging, and hardware design teams for utilizing various hardware platforms, including co-packaged optical chiplets, photonic NIC cards, and evaluation board test setups
• Work with hardware engineers and firmware teams for initial board bring-up of silicon photonics and co-packaged optical platforms
• Execute individual board validation plans and generate detailed validation reports
• Support electrical continuity testing, optical insertion loss tests (Tx/Rx), and EO loopback measurements on photonic chiplet assemblies
• Assist with setup and operation of optical instruments including tunable laser sources (TLS), optical power meters, ASE sources, and multi-channel OPMs
• Handle Fiber Array Units (FAUs) and fiber-pigtailed components with care; support optical alignment and FAU-attach test setups
• Work with external PCB fabrication and assembly houses to ensure timely delivery of boards
• Develop cost-effective solutions by identifying multiple vendors, suppliers, and components
What We're Looking For
• A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in engineering lab environment as an electronics lab technician or similar
• Associates degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent; vocational qualification in a related technical discipline is preferred
• Proven, hands-on experience with PCB solder rework and BGA rework
• Experience with board bring-up and component-level troubleshooting
• Proficiency with standard lab test equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
• Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and board layouts, and locate components on a PCB
• Experience building custom cable assemblies and fabricating mechanical test fixtures
• Ability to load firmware and drivers onto validation platforms
• Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and accountability to engineering teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
Expected Base Pay Range (USD) 82,060 - 122,900, $ per annum The successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location and market conditions. The expected base pay range for this role may be modified based on market conditions.
