Work Arrangement: This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires in-office presence in Columbus, Ohio two days per week. Location Requirement: Candidates must be based within a commutable distance to Columbus, Ohio. Work Authorization: This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.
This role sits on the Digital Member Hub (DMH) team within Enterprise Internet & Mobility (EIM) BSA. The team supports a suite of applications that deliver core digital capabilities used across all customer channels, including web, mobile, chat, and voice. These mission-critical platforms include Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM), Customer Account Management (CAM), Preference Center, and the Customer Online Account Support Tool (COAST). DMH applications are supported by three agile development lines that are responsible for both modernizing current capabilities and delivering new digital solutions using modern technologies. This position is an individual contributor role that operates outside the line Application Suite Tech Lead developer structure and serves as a key leadership partner in the planning, development, and deployment of digital products.
Technical Skills • Strong understanding of software development fundamentals and coding best practices
• Full-stack development experience
• Knowledge of front-end web development technologies and approaches
• Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Angular
• Experience with DevOps and cloud technologies, including Apigee, AWS, Kubernetes, Git, Maven, Jenkins, Harness, and CI/CD pipelines
• Deep experience designing, building, and supporting APIs
• Experience using AI Tools
Non-Technical Skills • Ability to think strategically at the DMH value stream level
• Ensure solutions built by teams align with and support the broader DMH ecosystem
• Serve as an outside-the-line technical lead coordinating across the three DMH development lines
• Support discovery efforts by providing expertise on the DMH application suite to other application areas
• Partner closely with Line Tech Leads and the Product Architect
• Coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to guide sound technical direction and decision-making
• Proactively share information to keep the right stakeholders informed and aligned
• Apply experience and judgment to recommend the best technical approach for initiatives
• Support team growth by mentoring and elevating others
• Drive collaboration and project execution across multiple teams
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and self-leadership skills

As a Software Engineer, you will focus on mentoring and leading others to deliver high quality, cost-effective technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. Job Description Key Responsibilities: • Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Mentors and trains other team members on design techniques, tools and coding standards.
• Provides strategic advice on using technology to achieve goals.
• Drives cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams.
• Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards and optimal practices.
• Champions the use of DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.
• Ensures continuous learning and improvement through ongoing training, practice and innovation.
• Manages individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics or related field is strongly preferred.
Experience: Six years of experience in programming and systems analysis. Three years of experience in project management is preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Hands-on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction. Proficiency in one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle sophisticated business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
