About this role

Summary Vanguard is seeking an experienced Application Engineer III to join a growing engineering team responsible for developing and supporting cloud-native solutions that power critical business capabilities. In this role, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and enhance scalable applications while leveraging modern software engineering practices and AWS cloud technologies.

This is an opportunity to work across a variety of applications and initiatives, contributing to technical solutions that drive business value while helping shape engineering best practices within a collaborative Agile environment. The ideal candidate is a versatile full-stack engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, learning new technologies, and delivering high-quality software in the cloud.

Responsibilities • Design, develop, test, and implement scalable applications and services using modern software engineering practices.

• Build and support cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS technologies and microservices-based architectures.

• Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and backend services while contributing to front-end application development as needed.

• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, testing, and application architecture decisions.

• Implement automated testing and CI/CD practices to improve quality, reliability, and delivery speed.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex application, integration, and production support issues.

• Collaborate with engineers, product teams, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver technology solutions.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering processes, application performance, and system reliability.

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers when appropriate.

• Ensure compliance with technology, security, risk, and operational standards.

Qualifications • Minimum of five years related work experience, with at least one year of development experience.

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.

• Experience building and supporting full-stack applications in enterprise environments.

• Strong hands-on development experience with Java and Spring Boot.

• Experience with modern front-end technologies such as Angular, React, or similar frameworks.

• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and system integrations.

• Hands-on experience working with AWS cloud technologies.

• Experience with source control, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

• Experience working within Agile software development environments.
