Florida Land Protection Project Manager

The Land Protection Project Manager coordinates and implements a comprehensive program to protect natural areas and habitat for rare and endangered plants, animals and natural communities using the full range of protection tools, including gift, easement, purchase, lease registry, conservation brokerage, land and resource use planning and cooperative projects with federal, state, and local government, conservation organizations and other partners as appropriate. The Land Protection Project Manager is responsible for implementing and achieving TNC’s internal conservation priorities by developing key partnerships with public and private organizations to implement land protection projects, including conservation real estate transactions.  They assist in securing public and private funds for land protection, research land ownership information for tracts identified as potential acquisition projects and prepare project packages as appropriate.  They respond to protection inquiries and screen potential protection projects.  May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. 

The Land Protection Project Manager must be located in Florida with preference for candidates in the central to south Florida region.

Responsibilities and Scope:

• Identification, cultivation and implementation of land protection projects, including conservation real estate transactions and land and resource use planning efforts.                                                   

• Ability and willingness to travel frequently and on short notice, sometimes on weekends.

• Negotiate real estate transactions, which can bind TNC legally and financially.

• Plan, manage and implement work on protection projects, including working on or with a multidisciplinary matrixed team.

• Maintain records related to land transactions.

• Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, developing budgets and contributing to fundraising efforts.

What You’ll Bring:

• BA/BS degree in natural resources management, conservation, business, law or another related field of study and 3 years of related work experience in conservation, real estate, fundraising or other related experience.

• Experience with principles of land acquisition.

• Experience in managing multiple projects and timelines.

• Experience negotiating complex agreements.                     

• Experience developing partnerships (partners, community, government).

• Experience working with computers, including database management.

Desired Qualifications:

• Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

• 3 to 5 years of related work experience in conservation, real estate, land use, fundraising or other related experience.

• Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, strong team player who can build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization and with external partners.

• Knowledge of current trends and strategies in conservation, real estate and land protection in Florida.

• Politically savvy and experienced in partnership development (partners, community, government).

• Experience working with landowners.

• GIS and database management skills.

• Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program . Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $75,000 – $85,000 . This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
