Job Description: Responsible for providing field support services and assisting managers, supervisors, and drivers with the implementation of the Company’s Fleet Safety Management policies and procedures. Serves as a senior leader responsible for the overarching strategic fleet safety risk management and compliance. They provide leadership to the creation of Company policy and procedure, lead significant incident investigations, and act as the primary point of contact during formal state and federal DOT or PHMSA safety audits. This role manages the company's FMCSA compliance ratings, utilizing the Data Q system to protect public CSA scores, managing MCS 150, IFTA and vehicle registration management. They design training programs for leadership and drivers to ensure compliance with Company policy, procedures and regulatory requirements. Maintains documentation and provides guidance to ensure driver and Company regulatory compliance in a manner that is consistent with Company ethics and core values.
ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities : • Implement and Monitor : Manage the fleet’s Driver Support system (e.g., Samsara, Samba Safety), reviewing triggered events like hard braking, speeding, or distracted driving. Provide management oversight and collaborative support to ensure compliance of Driver Qualification (DQ) Files performed by junior fleet safety staff members, and verifying valid Authorized Driver, CMV Driver and CDL Driver Class A/B credentials and endorsements are present. Monitor Electronic Logging Device (ELD) data daily to identify Hours of Service (HOS) violations, unassigned driving time, and form/manner errors, and work with managers and drivers to ensure compliance.
• Mitigation Strategies : Analyze loss-run data and accident trends to forecast risks and adjust safety policies and trainings accordingly. Partner with procurement and maintenance leadership to evaluate the safety specifications of new vehicle acquisitions (e.g., collision avoidance systems). • Training and Education : Serves as the subject matter expert responsible for developing and delivering DOT/FMSCA Compliance and Driver Support System Trainings. Serves as a lead training for the Company’s Driver Training platform, to include PACE Driver Training, and formal, data-driven remedial coaching sessions with high-risk drivers to correct unsafe driving habits. • Audits and Inspections : Independently initiate, perform and document fleet safety audits and inspections and/or safety conversations; communicate and lead the implementation of corrective actions. • Incident Investigation and Analysis : Lead in investigating vehicle and fleet liability incidents, providing strategies to reduce future occurrences. Provide support to ensure quality and timely investigation, analysis and coding of vehicle and fleet liability incidents into the company’s data management system. Collaborate with operations managers to monitor strategies and evaluate the impact of ongoing performance. • DOT Accident Support - Lead immediate, on-scene or virtual accident investigations for any spills, rollovers, or CMV collisions, determining root causes and cargo-failure factors. Assist drivers and supervisors with investigating and managing incidents. • Technical Communication : Working with the Fleet Safety Manager to develop and distribute monthly reporting on fleet safety performance to include DOT FMSCA Regulatory updates and initiatives, CSA BASIC Scores, Driver Support System Ratings, Fleet Accident Rate per Million Miles, Total Cost of Fleet Claims to further enhance the Company’s overarching fleet safety management program.
• Point of Contact : Under the guidance of the Fleet Safety Manager, Director or VP of Safety, serve as a point of contact for any federal or state, safety or risk management authority and/or personnel, (i.e. Federal or State DOT, FMCSA, etc.). Serve as the primary point of contact for state and federal DOT compliance audits or interventions.
Education/Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in safety and health or equivalent combinations of technical training and experience . • 8+ years of experience with safety and health in the construction industry preferred.
KnOWLEDGE, Skills and Abilities:
Technical Skills : • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and DOT Hazardous Materials/PHMSA regulations as well as other state/federal safety regulations and company safety policies/procedures. • Highly skilled at prioritizing multiple tasks independently and managing fleet safety programs effectively. • Advanced knowledge and experience to conduct fleet program compliance audits, evaluations, inspections and/or behavioral observations. • Ability to work in high production environment (50+ hours/week, including nights and weekends) and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines. • Exceptional personal computer skills (MS Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Phone Apps, Power BI, etc.). • Consistently applies organization and administrative recording skills. • Exceptional writing and communication skills (emails, memos, correspondence, etc.). • Works independently, develops solutions for complex issues, and reviews with Fleet Safety Manager or Director prior to acting. • Demonstrated ability to apply business unit operational means and methods, including leading and
