The Field Technician III is proficient in the troubleshooting and maintenance of various types of equipment noted. The ideal Field Technician III candidate has a strong technical, mechanical and electrical background and is familiar and proficient with all major manufacturers of transport equipment, low/high voltage electrical systems, DC power plant as well as knowledgeable in critical infrastructure, ISP/OSP and all associated test systems to include optical, electrical and power testing equipment associated with the telecommunications industry.

The Field Technician III will proficiently install, test or turn up a variety of telecommunications equipment including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP or Ethernet based equipment with limited supervision from the team lead or manager. They'll also troubleshoot and handle maintenance of various types of equipment (i.e. Ciena, Nokia, Infinera, Juniper, Cisco)

This individual also serves as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced technicians and may contribute to process and policy improvements.

The role may support on-call rotations, after-hours activity, extended shifts, and occasional overnight travel based on business needs.

***Please note that this role will be located in the Indianapolis, IN area and will be working in the field. Our ideal candidate will live within an hour's drive of Indianapolis, IN

Job Duties • Perform complex field service activities across the assigned geographic area with minimal supervision, including installation, commissioning, decommissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network and customer services.

• Install, test, turn up, troubleshoot, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, Ethernet-based platforms, transport equipment, DC power systems, and related critical infrastructure.

• Conduct OTDR, Ethernet, BER, SONET, circuit, optical, electrical, and power acceptance testing using appropriate test equipment and documented procedures.

• Complete preventative and demand maintenance for network facilities, critical infrastructure, fiber assets, and materials to support service reliability and operational readiness.

• Identify, analyze, and resolve potential network issues before they become service-affecting events, including root cause analysis and corrective actions identified through routine maintenance or troubleshooting.

• Perform site surveys and field inspections for building entrance requirements, equipment space availability, cabinets, buried cable, construction sites, outside plant facilities, and related network environments.

• Install, label, scope, clean, and test fiber optic patch cords and support inside plant and outside plant work, including metro and long-haul fiber assignments as needed.

• Prepare accurate documentation, reports, site surveys, audit reports, closeout materials, and system updates; communicate effectively with customers, peers, management, contractors, and other stakeholders.

• Act as a technical resource and coach by providing guidance to less experienced technicians, assigning or coordinating work as appropriate, evaluating team performance, and supporting knowledge transfer.

• Participate in project meetings, cross-functional forums, on-call rotations, dispatch, overtime, occasional long shifts, and overnight travel while following safety requirements, vehicle policies, and applicable procedures.

Qualifications • Advanced working knowledge of telecommunications installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting practices for network and customer services.

• Proficiency with optical transmission systems, transport equipment, low/high voltage electrical systems, DC power, critical infrastructure, ISP/OSP environments, and related test equipment.

• Experience using tools and test methods such as OTDR, optical power meter, digital multi-meter, fiber identifier, fiber scope, RFC2544, RFC6349 TrueSpeed, iPerf, Y.1564, and 1G/10G/100G/400G circuit testing.

• Ability to read and interpret OSHA/company safety rules, MSDS, MOPs, CLR/DLR documentation, process and procedure documents, and vendor equipment documentation.

• Ability to work in varied field environments, including indoor and outdoor sites, heights, confined spaces, construction areas, varied terrain, adverse weather, and potential exposure to vegetation or wildlife.

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, meet physical job requirements, pass applicable MVR requirements, and maintain eligibility to operate a company-issued vehicle in accordance with company policy.

Education & Experience • High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Minimum of four (4) years of telecommunications field experience installing, testing, turning up, troubleshooting, and maintaining network equipment, including SONET, TDM, DWDM, and IP-based equipment.

• ISP, DC Power, OTDR experience required.

• Basic telecommunications and/or industry safety training required; advanced telecommunications training preferred.

• Previous experience supporting, mentoring, or coaching less experienced technicians preferred.

• V alid state-issued driver’s license   required;   must   maintain   company vehicle eligibility, including no more than two moving violations within the past three years.
