As a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you'll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service. What You'll Do • Serve as the primary technical contact for customers, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing Applied Materials semiconductor equipment. • Support equipment performance in advanced semiconductor manufacturing environments through diagnostics, repairs, upgrades, and system optimization. • Partner with senior engineers, technical support teams, and customers to resolve complex equipment issues and minimize downtime. • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, mechanical, vacuum, hydraulic, gas delivery, and related subsystems. • Build strong customer relationships while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and cleanroom requirements.
Key Responsibilities • Install, maintain, upgrade, and repair semiconductor manufacturing equipment, with a focus on maximizing tool uptime and productivity. • Troubleshoot equipment issues using diagnostic software, analytics, schematics, and systematic root-cause analysis. • Perform preventative maintenance, system recoveries, calibrations, and optimization activities across multiple tool subsystems. • Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation to support effective problem resolution. • Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
Ideal Candidate Background • Experience supporting semiconductor ion implant equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment. • Hands-on expertise in installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and system optimization. • Strong technical aptitude with semiconductor process equipment and related subsystems. • Proven ability to support critical manufacturing operations while minimizing downtime.
Minimum Qualifications • Bachelors degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, military technical training, trade certification, or equivalent experience. • 2-4 years of field service, semiconductor equipment support, manufacturing equipment maintenance, or related technical experience. • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, vacuum, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic systems using diagnostic tools (including DMMs). • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings. • Exposure to semiconductor manufacturing equipment, preferably ion implant systems , with strong communication and Microsoft Office skills.
Preferred Qualifications • 4 -7 years supporting semiconductor manufacturing equipment, particularly ion implant systems and associated toolsets . • Working knowledge of ion implant subsystems, including vacuum systems, beamline components, power supplies, gas delivery systems, robotics/automation, wafer handling, and process control systems. • Experience performing preventative maintenance, equipment calibrations, system recoveries, and root-cause troubleshooting. • Proficiency with diagnostic software, equipment logs, and technical documentation to identify and implement corrective actions. • Ability to work independently in customer fabs while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
