About this role
ABOUT EXA
WE RAISED A $250M SERIES C TO BUILD THE SEARCH ENGINE FOR AIS. LED BY A16Z, WITH EXISTING INVESTORS BENCHMARK, LIGHTSPEED, AND YC DOUBLING DOWN, THE ROUND BRINGS EXA'S VALUATION TO $2.2 BILLION.
Exa is building a search engine for the AI era. Our Search API currently powers Agents, Fortune 500s and AI labs as we transform an industry that hasn't been disrupted since the 90s. We're a largely SF-based team of ~100 from Harvard, MIT, Meta, Google Research, ex-founders & dropouts alike.
We are rapidly building the most intelligent search engine in history. We're high agency, low-ego, and united by the feeling that this is one of the last problems worth getting right.
We are looking for a Field Event Manager to own our program in New York and the East Coast.
ABOUT THE ROLE
New York is where a large share of our enterprise buyers work: financial services, media, consulting, and the AI teams inside large companies who are deciding right now how their agents will retrieve information. This role owns how we show up for them.
This is not a logistics job. You own the regional program: deciding what mix of dinners, hosted evenings, executive roundtables, conference presence, and account-specific events will actually move pipeline in your territory, then executing all of it to a high standard. You'll work as a partner to the AEs who cover the region, not as a service desk that takes event orders.
The standard is high. Our audience gets invited to a lot of things. Yours should be the one they clear their calendar for, and the follow-through afterward should be as good as the evening itself.
This role is based in-person in New York, with regular travel across the East Coast and periodic trips to our San Francisco HQ.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
REGIONAL PROGRAM STRATEGY
Own the plan for your territory: which formats, which cities, which accounts, and which quarter. Build it with sales input and defend it with a pipeline rationale. Success is measured by program quality and by pipeline sourced and influenced in the region.
END-TO-END EXECUTION
Own every event from concept to wrap: venue, vendors, catering, production, invitations, run of show, on-site management, and the details nobody notices until they're wrong. Success is measured by attendance of the right people and by execution that never becomes the story.
SALES PARTNERSHIP AND ACCOUNT-BASED EVENTS
Own the working relationship with East Coast AEs: target account lists, invitation strategy, in-deal events, and the pre-event and post-event choreography that turns a conversation into a next meeting. Success is measured by meetings generated and by AE demand for your programs.
PIPELINE OUTCOMES AND FOLLOW-THROUGH
Own what happens after the event: lead capture quality, timely handoff, and the follow-up sequence in partnership with Lifecycle Marketing and Marketing Ops. Success is measured by conversion from attendee to qualified opportunity.
BUDGET AND VENDORS
Own regional budget, vendor selection and negotiation, and cost per qualified attendee. Success is measured by program impact per dollar.
AI-FIRST OPERATIONS
Use AI to compress the operational load: invitation targeting, personalized outreach at scale, vendor research, run-of-show generation, and post-event summarization. One person should be able to run a serious regional program because the busywork is automated.
WHO YOU ARE
- 4+ years in field marketing or event marketing at a B2B technology company, including ownership of a regional program rather than execution of someone else's.
- Deep event craft: you can walk us through a run of show, tell us what you check at 4pm before a 6pm start, and describe the last thing that went wrong and how you covered it.
- A real pipeline orientation. You have carried or contributed to a number and can talk about cost per qualified attendee without flinching.
- Evidence of strong sales partnership, including how you handled an AE who wanted something you thought was a bad idea.
- Knowledge of the New York market: venues, vendors, and what an audience of senior technical buyers here will actually attend.
- Budget and vendor negotiation experience.
- AI-native working habits: you use AI to remove operational load and can show us how.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience running events for a technical or developer audience alongside enterprise buyers.
- Experience at an early-stage company where you built the program rather than inherited it.
- Conference sponsorship negotiation and booth program experience.
- Familiarity with event tech (registration, badge scanning, on-site capture) and how it connects to CRM.
- Experience running executive roundtables or advisory dinners for senior technical leaders.
BENEFITS
- Health and wellness: Premium medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus a $300 monthly wellness stipend.
- Fertility and family planning: Reimbursement for eligible egg freezing and related medical expenses up to a $15,000 lifetime maximum, plus 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all new parents, whether through birth, adoption, surrogacy, or foster placement.
- Life at Exa: Our SF office serves lunch and dinner daily, with snacks, coffee, fresh bread from a local bakery, weekly milk tea, monthly picnics, and parties to celebrate the wins (and each other). You'll visit often.
- Visa sponsorship: We sponsor visas for exceptional candidates and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and locations.
