Freelance Event Manager
Location : Cambridge Contract : Ongoing Working Pattern : Flexible, with evenings, weekends and public holidays required depending on the event. Reports to : Producer / Project Lead Manages : Event staff, including front-of-house, bar and support staff where required
Role Overview
We, at Fever, are looking for enthusiastic, experienced Freelance Event Managers to help deliver a series of smaller-scale live events.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being involved in every stage of an event — from helping build and prepare the space, to managing staff and suppliers, welcoming guests, keeping things running smoothly during the event, and making sure everything is packed down properly at the end.
We’re looking for someone who is organised, proactive and confident taking ownership on the ground. You’ll need to be comfortable getting stuck in and doing whatever is needed to help create a successful event.
A background in events, hospitality, bars, venues or visitor experiences would be particularly useful.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Delivery
- Take ownership of the on-the-ground delivery of events, from set-up through to breakdown. - Work closely with the wider production team to prepare the event space and ensure everything is ready for guests. - Coordinate event staff, suppliers, venues and contractors as required. - Oversee the smooth running of the event, responding quickly and calmly to any issues that arise. - Be hands-on with set-up, furniture, signage, equipment, stock and general event preparation. - Manage event breakdown and ensure the venue is left clean, tidy and to the agreed standard.
Team Management
- Brief and manage front-of-house, bar and other event staff. - Coordinate staff rotas, breaks and responsibilities during events. - Make sure everyone understands their role and is delivering a high standard of service. - Lead by example and be willing to get involved wherever the team needs support. - Manage any agency or temporary staff on-site where required.
Hospitality & Guest Experience
- Help create a welcoming, friendly and well-organised experience for guests. - Oversee front-of-house and, where relevant, bar or hospitality operations. - Monitor guest flow and respond to any customer queries or issues. - Deal confidently and professionally with complaints or unexpected situations. - Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and customer service throughout the event.
Practical & Operational Support
- Work with venues and suppliers to ensure all logistical requirements are in place. - Assist with deliveries, stock checks and equipment movement. - Keep track of event supplies and flag any requirements or issues to the wider team. - Troubleshoot practical problems on-site and find solutions quickly. - Complete opening, closing and event checklists where required.
Health & Safety
- Ensure the event is operated safely and in accordance with venue and production requirements. - Carry out basic safety checks of the event space. - Make sure staff understand relevant health & safety and emergency procedures. - Escalate and document any incidents or issues appropriately.
Communication & Reporting
- Provide clear updates to the Event Producer / Project Lead before, during and after events. - Flag any operational issues, staffing concerns or supplier problems as early as possible. - Complete basic post-event reporting and feedback where required. - Help identify improvements that could make future events run more smoothly.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• Previous experience managing or coordinating live events, hospitality operations, bars, venues or visitor experiences.
• A practical, hands-on approach and a willingness to get stuck into whatever needs doing.
• Confident managing people and taking responsibility for an event on the ground.
• Highly organised, reliable and able to work independently.
• Calm under pressure and comfortable making decisions when things don't go to plan.
• Friendly, approachable and confident dealing with guests, staff, suppliers and venue teams.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• A genuine interest in creating great events and experiences.
• Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
What We’re Looking For:
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who doesn't mind getting their hands dirty.
Our events are smaller in scale, but we want them to feel polished, well-run and memorable. That means we need people who are happy to move between the big picture and the small details — whether that's briefing a team, helping set up a bar, moving furniture, sorting out a supplier issue or jumping in to help guests.
You don't need to have managed huge-scale events. Good practical experience, a positive attitude and the ability to take ownership are just as important.
This is a great
